I really like Aachen. I've only been there a couple of times (I used to live in Rheinland-Pfalz). Berlin is pretty amazing too, but I haven't been there since the summer of 1990. I'm sure it's changed a whole lot since then :)
lol Aachen is a tiny shithole but offers a lot of recreational areas such as the Eifel nearby. Berlin is a totally different story, lots of multiculturalism making a eurocup worthwile!
However I am afraid to go and buy my daily newspaper tomorrow. The owner of the shop is turkish and he already warned me not to show up tomorrow! I assume he is gonna charge me double!! :p Probably he is gonna tell me that only the Hurriyet is avaible, no Bild! No free candys for my girlfriend tomorrow I may assume! --nah he is a good guy and just looooves my girl! He would give in to me but never ever to her.

To my friend Sinan...
First off I don't know why you are attacking my 'Soccer knowledge Cred' so maliciously. But here are some answers to your questions.
1) I've followed Every World, Euro, Concacaf Cup since I've been around since I'm only 25 I can't remember them all. But I remember The US's 'great run' in 94 to get out of their group. I remember Baggio Choking over the bar, I remember the Turks getting Third in '02 and getting robbed by Brazil(now that was some bad officiating). I remember the Greeks winning it. I remember Galatasary winning the Champion's cup. I remember watching Pele's Anniversary game with Brazil. I can go on if you want.
2) Agreed. ESPN cater to the lowest common denominator.
3) I watch as many as possible usually around 3 unfortunately I have to pay more and take off weird hours to be able to see them live, but I manage. I've been coming to big soccer regularly for a couple years now. Just recently signed up.
4)I believe that is the 'Lock and Key' defense.
5)I'm actually not too familiar with it but I think it had something to do with match fixing. But honestly I don't really know that one.
How'd I do? To be honest it doesn't really matter I play much more then I watch about, five times a week. In fact I have a game in 2 hours and I have to walk my dog first. If this doesn't make you think that maybe a comment made by me might not be as easy to discount as 'He's an American he doesn't get it' then I can't convince you I guess which kind of sucks. I do find it a tad ironic that a Turkish fan would be writing off an American fan the same way most Turks complain that teams write off Turkey.
Bottom line is I respect your opinion the least you could do would be to respect mine.
O and I do believe this site was started by two Americans so maybe we aren't all that bad.

you can say everything, but please dont say luck, there is no luck in football.
Germany scored 3 goals, with bad of Rustu, with midfielder Mehmet Topal playing CB and making mistakes, but there is no luck here, still they could saved these.
I wish there was a 3rd place much, cause they are more entertaining generally.

We all saw the match, actually the entire world did."
No, hmmm. I seem to remember mostly a black screen.

I don't understand the seemingly irrational intensity of the hate for Germany after this match. Germany's performance (or the parts of it I was shown by ESPN, at least) was strong and you don't score 3 goals against the media darlings of the whole tournament without deserving it.

Aachen is a raging metropolis compared to Traben-Trarbach (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traben-Trarbach), the "city" I used to live in. I was stationed at "Flugplatz Hahn," which is now Flughafen Frankfurt-Hahn (http://www.hahn-airport.de/), and lived in an apartment in Traben-Trarbach.
I love history, so visiting the capital city of "Karl der Großer's" empire was pretty fascinating for me.

hey man,
I think I just asked some questions because I was wondering, why did u see my comments malicious? I ll not comment anymore. I dont think Americans are ignorant, some of them probably,on the other hand some of them are erudite people in some areas.
I was trying to understand if you know or not that football culture, it seems you have.
I am saying football is not just football, if you are following American football, and maybe you noticed what Patriots coach did by his assistant camera?
In football tricks are not that simple man, I was trying to say that,
just google and find about these two matches
1)25 june 1982 West Germany-Austria
2)1996 Croatia - Turkey match
at the last minute 90, it was 0-0, Crotian player Vlaovic started to dribble from center line, and only one Turkish guy (Alpay) was following, he did not do foul, which was the obvious thing, and Vlaovic scored, they won 1-0. Know what happened? Europe was surprised, I remember De Boer brothers said , `we would knock him down the first second he got the ball`, Alpay got the fair play award by UEFA that year.
If people try to get my point, in the future we will see more entertaining tournaments, otherwise score oriented, unfair plays will continue,
Take care, I am not judging anybody`s knowledge, just try to understand level so that I can use the right medium.

Nobody showing hatred against Germany be sure, I was supporting Germany in 96, and 2006 cause they were playing good, but admit it or not, Germany style is not sth I like after last two matches.
Congratulations Germany for reaching final , but sad thing is a big football country like Germany is o.k. with low quality football, reaching a final is not a biggie for Germany, right? Everybody was guessing that before the tournament, so why not put sth beautiful? Germany had tons of cups, what if you add one more, do you think it matters more than a playing beautiful and lose? I think you think numbers matter more, its ok, some likes apple, some likes orange.

Nobody watching ESPN in the U.S. saw anything live after about the 73rd minute.
We only found out Germany had scored from the Basel fan zone feed showing Germans waving their flags.
When they returned, they jumped to the Senturk goal "live", but it really wasn't live. They then played it through the Lahm goal, which I'm not sure was live either.
In any event, the drama was totally sunk. This could've been a terrific match to watch and the action was completely ruined at the end.
Lightning in Vienna should NEVER be the cause of a global blackout of a match played in Basel. Somebody had their head up their ass.

Most people dislike Italian and German soccer teams.
Sorry.
Personally I love to hate Brasil, and root for anybody playing them. The more those ponces get kicked and fouled the better (even though the referees usually protect Brasil and punish their opponents, but that's another topic). :p

I usually come to bigsoccer.com after most every match of a world cup or a Euro to further enjoy the experience of great Soccer. It's usually a lot of fun to read threads like this one. Of course, it's even more fun, when the team I support has won, you'll understand that, i guess.
But this time it has been awful. There's so much hate speak, trash talk and trolling in both topics about this semi, it makes me sad.
Personally, I was rooting for Germany, but I would have rooted for Turkey if they had advanced. This is also what almost everyone who was interviewed on German TV said before and after the match, no matter what nationality they were. Even the Turks in Istanbul told the German reporter that they enjoyed the match and their team's great performance and will cheer for Germany in the final now. Everyone's celebrating here, Germans as well as Turks.
All was well. Peace and harmony. Then I came here and you totally ruined the evening for me. So to all you haters, nationalists and referee blamers: You SUCK. (Sorry)

the poland and portugal games had lots of nice football though. Against portugal it wasn't a 90 minute show of nice football because germany had a 2 goal lead for a large part of the game so teams normally sit back a little when that is achieved

Wonderful match. Congratulations to Turkey. You should be proud, not bitter, and will only be remembered with good memories.

I think people need to be frank. I read in a comment in Turkish site, from a Turkish living in Germany saying, (about Croatia -Turkey match)
'we were in a bar, and 4 Turks, rest Germans, they were supporting Croatians heavily, and at the end of match they got very upset `
so you can say lie, but dont think people do not understand what is going on.

You just remembered to me what Derwall said about the decrease of German football to a Turkish reporter, in mid 90s.

Just dont think this is representative. Literally everyone I know was rooting for Turkey in their match against Croatia. Obviously there were some that cheered for Croatia. And obviously there are nationalistic or hating or whatever idiots in every country including Germany. But who cares for them? Dont make them bigger than they actually are!
In South Africa Germany and Turkey will meet in the final and all will be well. :D

good to hear that, cause even if the team is Greece I always support who plays better . I couldnt understand the hatred of Germans against Turkey after reading that comment. where are you from by the way, east or west?
