Media semana despues le anularon un gol a JPA por un fuera de lugar que me parecio tambien no se pita la mayoria de las veces.

Fue una eliminatoria re-frustrante!

So let’s look at the numbers:

Paraguay – 13 pts
Argentina – 11 pts
Colombia – 10 pts - + 2 GF
Chile – 10 pts
Brazil – 9 pts
Uruguay – 8 pts
Venezuela – 7 pts
Ecuador – 5 pts
Bolivia – 4 pts
Peru – 2 pts

Our remaining matches:
v Uru - H

I believe it will take 26 pts to get in with a direct bid and 25 pts for a repechaje spot…. very similar to 2006 WCQ. If you look at
how that qualifier ended, from the 3rd to the 6th place, there were only 4 points difference. Both Brazil and Arg also ‘struggled’
a bit at their start of their campaign and so all was very packed from 1st – 7th thru 6 rounds.

Ok, so on 26 pts – we have 6 home matches that can yield – 18 points. Winning all home matches and losing all others can
still yield a direct spot, no doubt. Arg + Braz aren’t a problem as we’ve already played them at home.

But this being the qualifier, I’ll place 1 home match in the loss column, let’s say v Paraguay. With 5 home wins and losing all
remaining games, we would yield 15 points, which would get us to a repechaje spot. Again, for 2002 WCQ, you had Ecuador,
Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil and even Uruguay start very strong early on and had other teams like Peru, Colombia, Bol and
Chile basically take points from each other. Vzla didn’t become a factor until about ½ way in.


Ok, so those 5 home wins – would be versus, Uru, Bol, Peru, Ecu, Chile. These are teams that we have traditionally done well
at home. Also based on their current form, they are the most accessible of wins :

Uruguay has lost all visiting matches: lost v Paraguay + Brazil. Also, They are also not so strong at home but we’ll come back to that point.
Bolivia, Peru – 2 weakest teams in Conmebol
Ecuador – Last win in Colombia back in 77’ friendly.
Chile - Last win in Colombia back in 81’ friendly.

Would take us to 25 points (again omitting an additional 3 points v Paraguay).

So that makes me feel somewhat positive. When we add playing as visitor’s, it’s complicated.
However, if I had to take 1 point home as visitors, I would say we can do so from:
Chile, Vzla and Uruguay. Losing to Arg, Braz and Paraguay would be reasonable.

That’s why I say the key is in the next 2 matches, coming out with 4 pts after 2 rounds, as the
following 2 v Par @ home and v Bra – Away, can come out as losses.

As others and myself have pointed out, this a competition that lasts 3 years and too many intangibles play in: home field advantage, injuries, suspensions, streaks, other team performances, team motivation, press incidence, etc. At the end it does not matter if we play an uggly brand of football and if the coach look like he's more affraid to lose than he's interested in winning, as long as we collect 26 to 29 points.
