Love them or Loathe them, the players that play with a fire in their belly and wear their hearts on their sleeve always seem to have a place in our memories, regardless of their skill level.

Players like Dennis Wise, Paulo De Canio, David Sealey (Mr Angry) from years ago played with such emotion that you found yourself being drawn to watch them.

What current & past players do you think played with this quality and makes them an unforgetable part of the game?

Current Liverpool players: Stevie G and Mascherano stand out. Although Masch's emotions got the better of him against the scum. Kuyt is also one who fits the sentence "wear their hearts on their sleeve always seem to have a place in our memories, regardless of their skill level" perfectly.

William Gallas strikes me as one of these sorts of players at the moment.

There was a Scotsmen of the 60's or so by the name of Tommy Gemmell who also comes to mind. Saw highlights many years ago of him getting fouled rather nastily from an opponent. He got up and chased these player down the other end of the pitch. When he caught up with him he kicked this fellow square up the backside. Understandably got a red card for it too.

You dont find many emotional players these days. Too busy playing for their paychecks to give a care. De Canios passion in a game for West Ham (one of his last for them) where he came off the bench and scored the winning goal only to breakdown in tears after winning the match always comes to mind for me. I have a lot of admiration for these sorts of players who put it all on the line. You can see it in the way the crowd comes alive for these players. They play to win and the supporters love them for it.

De Canio highlights below.

I remember the goal he scored against Milan when playing for Napoli. Think it drew the game. He got a yellow for over celebrating.

IMO he was one of my favourite players because of way he went about the game. He made it enjoyable to watch him play even if you didnt support the team he played for.

Nistelrooy, Tevez, and Roy Keane come to mind.

Nistelrooy?? Honestly never saw that when he was at united. perhaps this has changed since he went to real.

Gascoigne I totally agree with you. WC 90 truly showed that.

Roy Keane was the most driven , belligerent player I've seen in the last 20 years whether playing for United or Ireland.
It probably helped that he could play a bit as well !

One of my favorite players, Wayne Rooney i believe plays with so much passion and love for the game-

at old trafford when morrison took out ronaldo and wayne rooney basically tried to kill him while he was being sent off the pitch, being in america thats something that really sucks i feel the players are playing for money not passion

Wayne rooney slides on his knees after he scores and yells in the crowds face passion is there...

The ref gives Rooney a yellow in the 57 min. at old trafford rooney hates the call and claps in the refs face and thus gets another card and gets sent off, Thats passion i love that guy

I was in the same boat as you watching it live. At the time I thought we were robbed. Hindsight is a great thing and would take this away from the game; The Aussies played well above themselves to stay in the game however we never looked even close to getting the ball over the line. Buffon was not going to be troubled by our forwards. Maybe, just maybe if we had a fit Kewell playing we might have had a slim chance of victory. If we could have taken them to penalties we would have had a 50/50 chance. Taking my bias out of it, we never stood a chance of scoring.

Further to this I have read many articles from different experts and the majority say that the penalty was correct. I wont agree and never will however I am not about to question many of these peoples knowledge of the rules is far greater than mine and most other people.

I always, always think of this moment.

I stand corrected.
