View Full Version : USMNT Crest Concept

I was browsing the Chris Creamer Sports Logos site, and came across a thread with a new concept for the USMNT's crest. I thought it was pretty good as it was, basically, a stylized version of the Great Seal of the United States.

I wanted to be able to give the logo's creator a bit of criticism/comments/praise. So, I thought I would ask what you guys think of it.

BTW, I know that some of you on this board will be tempted to flame me in to the nether-world with comments like, "leave our crest alone you stupid euro-snob!" (or whatever), but i remind you that this is just a concept and has nothing to do with our national team. Just critique it for what it is, please.

I really like that but the eagle should go INSIDE the crest, otherwise the whole thing would look too big on a shirt

Although anything would look better than the ball rocketing straight up into the sky. I would like to meet the person that came up that design.

Not bad, but nothing can be better than the rattlesnake.

i think the three stars should be dropped if/when a new logo is made. a lot of people outside of the fans of the team, are confused on the meaning of them.

apparently its a secret code that will be shown as a "national treasure" code by nicholas cage in one of his fabulous thrillers....the "tri-star" as it will be known will lead cage on a journey to the depths of hell in which he convinces the devil to creat the super-American soccer star....but unbeknownst to Senor Cage,he has a cocaine problem...ILL END THERE,I DONT WANNA RUIN THE REST OF THE MOVIE!

It just seems a little close, honestly...

It's an eagle. It was our national bird before the Nazis ever used it. If the Russians can stomach the inclusion of an eagle in their crest, I think we can stand it too.

I don't know that I'd use if as the new crest, mainly for similar reasons to what HighburyForever stated re: size. Also, the Eagle is a little too "stylized" and modern looking for my taste. I like crests that have a more classic, traditional look to them.

It could definitely be a good logo for them to use as an alternate--perhaps sell it on t shirts, or have it on a jacket sleeve, etc.

Here are a few other thoughts, looking at it quickly:

1) people who are upset about the current crest having blue stripes ("it looks like Cuba!") will definitely like the red and white alternative.

2) It seems that the red stripes are much wider than the white. I think they should be equal in width.

3) It's good that he got 13 stripes on....but he's got 7 white and 6 red, whereas the flag has just the opposite.

4) to me, the blue and white stars get somewhat lost on the blue background. I would do one of the following a) change the blue part of the star to red, so that it's red and white on blue. b) leave the star as blue and white with the blue background, but give it an outline of either red or gold.

I like it a lot, but I agree that it might be pretty big on a shirt. I think the arrows and olive branch are key elements that make the eagle American, so they should be included.

As for the actual image, the stars need to be modified. The 3-D look that the stars currently have is blue shadow on a red background. If the background is changing to blue, the shadow should be red.

The current crest has eleven stripes: six blue, five white. I prefer the red and white stripes, but I think the thickness discrepency should be reduced.

How about the crest on this ball:

Even Brandi endorses it.

Another crest thread. How innovative! Yawn!

I like the renderings, but we have a crest. It may not be the best looking but it is who are. That's the crest everyone arond the worlds knows when the think of US Soccer.

Thats the crest I have tattooed on my chest, and IMO , the crest we should be using.

I like it but like somebody said the Eagle should be inside the crest and ball should be in the air like it has streaks from the wind on it.

Another BigSoccer Negative Nancy with nothing better to do than make snarky remarks about topics in which he/she claims to have no interest. How innovative! Yawn!

See, I can be a jerk too.

Now move along, you're bothering us.

I don't think you are being a jerk and I don't think I came across that way either. The point I was trying to make is that I like the renderings (which I clearly said) but we have a crest. It just gets old that people (an I'm guilty to some degree) what to always change things whether it be the color of the jerseys, the crest, and so on. If we want tradition it starts with having something familiar which everyone knows and building upon it. The current crest is that. It may not be the best but it symbolizes our identity.

what's wrong with wanting to change things?
If something isn't perfect, you have a right to attempt to
perfect it.
I'm a fledgling graphic designer, and i've thought about the
current US logo alot.
It does the job, but I think it's not to early to think about
a new design.

I appreciate your viewpoint. I was objecting to what I perceived to be a "smart-aleck" comment in the beginning of your post. I apologize for retaliating.

On the subject of changing our logo versus staying with the status quo, I almost always side with tradition vs. modernization. Unfortunately, I think our current logo is ill-conceived and won't stand the test of time. I would prefer to adopt a logo that will last long after we are gone. This may not be it, but I prefer it to the current crest.
