Don't count these boys out yet! Nobody gave them a chance and yet here we are needing only a tie to get out of the group stages, and playing a Nigerian side that is missing players of its own.
Losing Freddy and Bradley hurts, but I still think that the US can get it done.
If Holden passes the ball to Sacha instead of shooting on that breakaway the US walks into the next round with a 3-2 win instead of a tie.
Trust me I'm not even close to giving up, but I am still bummed. And if Holden passes it I think we win 3-1 not 3-2.

Cocky and disrespectful of the oponents, which... are basically the squad that were runners up in the 2005 u20 World Championship (8 first team players are from that squad).
I'm thinking your going down... 3:0 or possibly 3:1 if you put on Altidore.

Huh? What in the world are you trying to say? Who is cocky and disrespectful of anyone? I said if Holden passes to Klejstan he has an open net and the US goes up 3-1 on Holland. At that point I doubt the foul ever occurs to give the Dutch the free kick and the US wins 3-1.
And why are we talking about the U-20 WC? I'm still really confused, actually I think you might be confused.
Edit: Just looked it up. Nigeria was runners up in the 2005 U-20 WC so I assume you're talking about me being disrespectful to Nigeria in a post where I was talking solely about one play in the US-Netherlands match. Nothing to do with Nigeria. Please re-read my post or read it for the first time before you attack me.

No problem. I figured as much and sorry if I was harsh in response. I think the US-Nigeria match will be a very good one and either team can win. I'd feel a lot better about the US' chances if they had Adu and Bradley.

I'm saying that Nigeria loses, maybe not 3-1, more likely 1-0 or 2-1, something like that. Nigeria is a good squad, but I'm American and I BELIEVE in our Boys!!! No one thought they had a chance against the Netherlands and we DOMINATED that game.

Wow!!! I will say one thing though, if the US can beat Holland and Nigeria back to back, they should make it to the semi-final.
My prediction is a tie all around which will see both US and Nigeria in the next round.
US 1 Nigeria 1
Holland 1 Japan 1

I always thought US had a chance against Holland based on their CAnada 2007 exploits. I originally thought US and Nigeria would go through, but after watching the ING cup and falling for the dutch hype, I switched US with Holland, I'm thinking my original gut feeling was right. Yes the US dominated the dutch, but trust me Hollands performance was sub par to put it mildly. It remains to be seen in this tournament whether the US can get a good result against a strong team playing to their potential. Nigeria much like the US will be finally getting into their stride.

I originally stated that the Netherlands and Nigeria would progress narrowly over the US. May as well stick with that now...
(but you can sure bet i'll be cheering for them!) :D

Unfortunately 2 of the 3 architects of that run, Adu and Bradley, are out vs. Nigeria. Of course Bradley missed the quarterfinal loss to Austria in that tournament for the same reason he's missing tomorrow's (or is it today?) match. I also don't think Altidore (the third reason the US did so well in Canada) is 100%.

Man am I impressed with Babel. I don't think I've ever seen a player have a stroke like that on the field and get right back in there playing.

it could be argued that the best team didn't advance

A ridiculous decision on the PK.
But also a ridiculous decision by Orozco to elbow someone 3 minutes into the game.

I don't know about that. I would say overall, the Dutch did what they had to do, and Nigeria hung in there - thanks to a 10-man US team.

Yeah. That was a bonehead move by Orozco. He practically handed the game to Nigeria.

The professional dive by the Dutch player gave them the victory, gosh diving is so stale. Out of our group I will root for the non-diving team, Nigeria.

Nigeria did dive once against Japan actually, but the guy got yellowed for it so they probably haven't tried since then.

Sour grapes eh. Who's that American player again who after a couple of great Dutch goalkeeper saves decided that it might be a good idea to stand on said goalkeeper's foot.

He fouled the keeper, but he did not dive, big difference.

Oh OK, so trying to kick someone off the pitch is quite all right then?
Babel didn't dive either. A dive is only a dive when there's no contact. There was contact with Babel and truth of the matter is that 9 out of 10 referees give a penalty for such an incident. If you want to complain about cheating, I suggest you complain about the Brazilians.
