Why?

Why?
Got him on a Bosman and my assistant manager thought he'd be a decent signing. If nothing else I'll spin him down the road for half a mill or so.

Do you think it would be possible, in the next one, for there to be an option at the half-time team talk, where you just tell them to "completely ignore me and my suggestions and play like pro donkey wankers"?
Every time I tell them to not get careless or complacent they've conceded one by the 50th minute. I'm sure its a sick joke the programmers put in. I also want a "mercilessly take the piss" option at the end of the game when they've played like retards.
I also find that they stop listening to me regardless of what I say when I look at the team-talk feedback bit.
Has anyone brought anyone through their youth set-up yet? In my 3rd year and my assistant reckons this one kid could be "one of the best players of his generation". Doesn't look anything special to me... Although most of my intake look more like they were just rounded up from a bus stop within walking distance of the academy.

I have a couple kids who will be players in 2-3 years, but nothing yet. A couple of my young reserves (i.e. Aaron) are quite good too.

If you actually give him 15 games a season(as I did in the Newcastle game) he develops very well. He's up to about 5 million quid right now.

David De Gea is a 16 yr old spanish keeper that I always sign in my first year and he turns into a really good keeper that is my keeper by about my 4 yr. i concentrate very hard on my youth squad and have won the cup and U-18 league most years I played. I alway go out and look for 16 yr olds that have high ratings and go out and sign 2 or 3 a year. I did that with Balotelli and De Gea my first season. I did that with a french kid named Saivat, Ricardo Bravo from Spain, and Ian Lambart from Portsmouth last season. I actually do take the approach of the new recruiting team in real life and sign youth heavily and 2 first team players per transfer windows more than i sell. I have only signed 13 players in 4 windows and the 5 extras came as replacements for Emre, Oba, Owen, Duff, Carrol, Geremi, and Krul sales.
I just finished my second season, beat Palarmo for the UEFA Cup, won both the League and FA Cups and took 2nd in EPL. I almost wish I would have bowed out of one of the domestic cups because there were 3 weeks that I had to play 4 games in an 8 day period that forced me to play an almost entire U-18 squad to not kill my senior players.
Like Dave, I have a first and second squad.
Squad 1:
Given
Edson, Garay, Taylor, Vanden Boore
Sergio Mota, Van der Vaart, Hargreaves, Milner
Kevin Doyle, Oscar Trejo
Squad 2:
Harper
Enrique, Sonko, Andrea Coda, Beye
N'Zogbia, Modric, Sunny, Need RW
I. Uche, Mario Ballotelli
Barton is on my bench and I am trying to sell him. Milner will most likely go to my second squad when I sign my new RW because I am trying hard to sign Joaquin or Migliacco

This is my 16 year old kid described as "one of the best players of his generation". As you can see he has a high valuation already, but looking at his stats doesn't exactly excite me. He does look a bit like Gary Speed though. When he turns 17 I might start putting him in first team games from the bench. How long until his stats start to skyrocket?

I've noticed that kids with a few high mental stats (anything above 12-15) are considered future stars. Same with kids that have one or two good physical stats. For some reason, I can never get them to develop.

So, I figured out that the 3-2-1-2-2 can work pretty well. Thrashed Sevilla 4-2 (the 2 were errors on my team's part, not getting exposed or anything) with it.
GK: Ustari
D: Jansen, Richards, Barragan
DM: Sunny, Szetela
CM: van der Vaart
Wings: Silva, Arizmendi
S: Gomez, Villa
I might have to employ that more often.

So guys, please forgive my ignorance on this game, but do you get to watch the game being played? Do you control the players during the match? Or, do you pick your squad, send them out and then the AI sort of takes over. I've never heard of this game until now, but it sounds very interesting? Anyone have a good write up on it that might clue me in more?
Thanks,
Trevor

He's awesome for a 16 year old. Seriously.
It's hit or miss with him. Put him in the first team, let him rack up 6s and 7s. There is a good possibility he will get assists and goals no matter what if you give him enough time, and he will vastly improve. By 19 he will be worth 10 million.

As the title says you become the manager. You take over a club, any club in the world. You get their rosters from the beginning of the 07-08 season, although in the second patch you can get the Jan. window signings. You get a transfer budget, need to sign a coaching staff, physio staff, and scouts. You can create the training plan for your squad and decide who plays in games. When the game starts, you decide on subs and tactics during, but do not play the players. Hope this helps.

Well the website for the game is here. (http://fm08.footballmanager.net/en/article/100/index.html) You don't really control the players during the match, you just set the tactics and the line-ups. Its a lot better than it sounds. Be warned though (like the warnings on cigarette packets) its very, very addictive. You're also in charge of transfers. I'm not sure where you can get it in the US, I think its available for download and I think TD got his copy from Amazon. Is it called "Worldwide Soccer Manager" over there?

Ah right, might be interesting if I put another screen shot of his values in a few seasons time. My assistant has 20 for judging potential and current abilities and he reckons he has the potential to be a leading star. I'm surprised because usually my youth intake is terrible. I've played him in one game and he got a 6. I moved him from the U-18s to the reserves too. He's being tutored by VDV too.

Much obliged, gentlemen. I will check out what I can find on Amazon.

After getting knocked out of the '10 World Cup, Holland approached me and asked me if I wanted to manage the "Clockwork Oranje." I did not resign from Newcastle and am managing both squads at the moment. I think I'll manage the Oranje thru the '12 Euro Cup and then resign....unless I manage to win and then I might take a run at a World Cup.
During the 09-10 season at Newcastle I got knocked out of both the League Cup and FA Cup, but won the League and Champs League. I am kind of glad that I got knocked out of the 2 domestic cups, it was just stretching my team to thin, even with 2 separate lineups.

Just out of curiosity, how frequent/rare are player ratings of 10?

I have seen a couple, but they were for 4 goal or 2-3 goal with 2-3 assist performances.

That's what I was wondering about. vdV scored four and assisted on another against Austria Vienna in the Uefa Cup for me and got a 10 rating.

Got FM 08 over the weekend and proceeded to waste several hours of my life on it.
I decided my first go around would be with the Revs, which might have been a mistake considering what an utter cheapskate Kraft is. I still managed to grab Mastroeni from Colorado and the young kid Ibrahim from Dallas thanks to the silly rules of MLS and the way they can be taken advantage of on the game. I also wrapped up Parkhurst to a long-term contract, but have a hell of a showdown with Shalrie over his contract coming up soon enough. I won my first game against some side from Guatemala in the Champions Cup, or whatever it is, and will do the second leg against them when I get home.

Did you get the latest update of the game before starting up? I would highly recommend you do if you haven't.
Sorry for busting in on your boards, FM doesn't seem to get brought up that often in the MUFC board and Zinni posts more here than the does there. :D
