Ronaldo got paid to do a job, he did that job better than anyone else. Dont get your ''ungrateful'' comments, anyway ronaldo has always been a little cvnt. what took you so long to realize this?

Dont know why he has said that. United have allready said they would rather let him rot in the stands than sell him.

So it's OK for the manager of a team to not care about a player's wish and decide to get rid of him whenever they feel like it. But if a player does the same thing, he's a selfish prick? Of course he has to look after himself and not let feelings get into the way of his decisions. Just like a manager would or should.

A managers job is to serve the interests of the club as best he can and manage the squad.

A players professional and morale obligation is to give 100% to that club because they pay him what he asks for, most of the time.

It'a a natural clash of priorities at times.

Ronaldo should really show a touch more humility. Utd are not keeping him like a slave. They are asking him to stay with them for a few more years, a favour that most normal, grounded, people would be more than happy to carry out given the money, time and support that Utd have provided Ronaldo over the last 4 years or so.

He'll get his move to Real Madrid. But Utd are not willing to sell having just won the European Cup. It sends out the wrong message.

Player power is so great these days. If a player wants to move elsewhere they almost always get their way if they are determined not to be swayed.

Man U are the victims in this particular case but they have benefited numerous times in the past from other players wishing to join them against the wishes of their current clubs. Hargreaves, Saha, Ferdinand, Rooney, Yorke to name a few famous examples.

Loyalty in football is increasingly rare, generally it is only the fans who stay for good.

selfish idiot thinks RM is a 'step up' from Man U, even though i support Chelsea, I still think the way he is behaving is appauling.

I think ManU is the one acting like they're keeping their players like slaves, threatening to let him rot on the bench (and mess up his financial values) if he were to want to move to Real. You have to admit Ronaldo has not done anything that players haven't done before, saying they wish to play for team X. The problem here is that Man U had no plan of shopping Ronaldo around this off-season and this caught them off-guard. Man U who usually are on the other side of such clash of interests, have been acting really like cry babies. Talking about lolayties and obligations? How loyal would they be to Ronaldo if next season his talent drops off drastically or he's injured and can't get back to his 2007/2008 form?

Indeed. Very true!

It's not necessarily a matter of "step up"? Maybe just a dream come true, like he said... you know players were kids once dreaming of playing for such and such team. Would you find his behavior appalling if he had shown a desire to move to Chelsea instead?

Here's a thing. Ronaldo has signed a contract. Which means he is legally, and to some extent, morally obliged to see it through. We can all talk about 'handing in your notice' however, you can 'hand in your notice' but it has to be accepted by BOTH parties for it to come in to effect. Most companies are happy to do so, since they can always replace you with someone else. Ronaldo however, is not so easily replaceable! Therefore, Ronaldo can ask, but United are not obliged to say yes, and they have made it abundantly clear that there is zero chance of Ronaldo leaving.

Why doesnt Ronaldo stop spouting off, actually TALK to United to see if there is any budging, then just get on with it! After all, he is paid well, he is enjoying a lot of success, so there is no MASSIVE incentive to move. All he has to do is keep playing well, and see out the contract, then he moves. Real will still be interested as long as his form is still maintained. Or, more likely, if he makes it clear he will not re-sign, United will sell him before the end of the contract.

The one major mistake Fergie made in this whole affair was his threat to drop Ronaldo to the bench and let him "rot" in the stands. Real Madrid no doubt rubbed their hands together with glee on that front and it more than likely offended the player and annoyed his representatives as well. It was not a well conceived comment to make.

Insisting that a player honour his contract is not slavery though. Not even close. When you find a "slave" who gets paid £120,000 a week for playing a sport and receiving world wide adulation, support and celebrity status, come and find me. A contract is an agreement between the two parties that is meant to last the length of that contract unless a mutually agreed decision is come to. Ronaldo signed this contract agreeing to stay at us for that contracts duration.

Utd are under no legal or morale obilgation to release him and he knows this as do Madrid and the players agents.

Regardless, in todays tabloids, it is claimed the player has contacted the club to inform them he will be reporting back at OT on time for pre-season training indicating that he does not expect or intend to force a move through for the forthcoming season.

A pinch of salt will be taken with that speculation...........

Indeed, that's exactly right! Man U are in no obligation to transfer him. That is pretty clear and like you said Ronaldo knows that; he's been saying that his move to Real depends on Man U. I haven't heard him say that he would raise hell so he can be moved to Real. That's why I said Man U's comments about letting him rotting were uncalled for... there's a difference between insisting that a player honor his contract and acting like you own said player and that the player should be yours or die trying to escape from your hold. Plus the media sudden criticism of his character have been quite biased. And the obsesion with every move/wink the guy makes, like he's in power to do anything is laughable, at best.

So far we haven't heard Ronaldo say anything but that he wish to play for Real Madrid yet acknowledging that only Manchester can make that happen. So I don't know where you get the idea that he's spouting off. He has not said he will not honor his contract, he has not said he will stop showing to ManU camp if he's not transfered. Yet the media crucified him like he's been acting wrong here. Man U has been in the wrong for making those vile comments about him a few weeks ago.

The selfish prick here is Sir threatening to make the player who gave him two league titles and the European Cup rot in the reserves, because he spat his dummy out at the prospect of Real Madrid doing to him what he's been doing to every other team for 20 years.

Agreed. The media turn on his character is un-called for.

The fact that Sir Alex Fergsuson had won 8 previous league titles in England would suggest that Ronaldo "gave" him nothing and that Fergie managed the team to that acheivment, not Ronaldo. He simply played a part in a team acheivment.

I love the way we get accused of tapping players up. Only in the case of Jaap Stam has there been any case of tapping a player up. Tevez didnt belong to West Ham that can be thrown out and Bayern Munich's support of Man Utd on this matter would suggest to me that, contrary to popular belief, Utd never pushed the boundaries of the Hargreaves transfer nearly half as far as some would suggest.

Ronaldo owes it to the club and the fans if they want him to stay for a while longer. It's not the rest of his life, it 2 or 3 more years.

Let him rot in the stands then. He is going to have a chance at playing at real madrid eventually, he is only 23 and anyone in la liga would take him just for the beckham factor ( jersey and ticket sales) for the next 10 years. He is an icon so whether or not he is that good in 10 years he will still be a huge world wide celebrity.

ppl keep saying "its selfish to keep him bc its his dream to play in la liga" If playing for the strongest club in the world right now and being a world wide soccer god isnt enough of a dream come true for him, then he is never going to be satisfied with anything.

He signed a nice long juicy contract a few years back and he is just going to have to wait until his time is served before he can go play at madrid, thats all there is to it. Next time Cristiano, sign a 1 or 2 year deal if you dont plan on staying any longer.

I agree with stevem3411. Anyone in La Liga would want him just for the wow factor that is associated with him. But he should of thought of the future before he signed the contract with United
