At Spurs, he had been made club captain by Gerry Francis. "He wasn't a leader in terms of being able to read the play," Pleat said. He was always a strong defender, a good blocker, at his best when our backs were against the wall. At Arsenal it's a different situation. They have the ball a lot more of the time.
