Is Cristiano Ronaldo currently the best dribbler in the world?

And who is the best of all time? Maradona, Pele, Garrincha?

He is among the best, the others including:

Messi, Robinho, Hleb, Robben (and on their good days- Diego, Joe Cole, Ribery, Iniesta)

Messi is the best conventional dribbler (by some margin), with Kaka, Robben and Robinho also close behind.

Ronaldo is the best unconventional dribbler with Ibahimovic, Quaresma and Robinho also among them.

The best dribblers in history are usually regarded as Pele, Maradona, Garricha, Eusebio, Ronaldo de Lima, Best, Barnes, Giggs, Finney and Lato with few othes as well.

Could you define conventional as opposed to unconventional?

IMO Messi is the best right now, with Kaka, Ronaldo and Ibra close behind.
But guys, we really need to start keeping our eyes on Pato.
I've followed AC Milan since he joined and he's astounding. His moves are so simple, it's all body feints, he hardly ever even touches the ball, and bam! the defenders are far behind.

Conventional dribbling - body fakes, sleight of foot, subtle changes of direction and exceptional ball handling.

Unconventional dribbling - Usually characterized by their tricks i.e pedaladas, elasticos, rabonas, blind passes etc. etc.

I think the best dribblers are
1) Robinho- just invented a new dribble this year
2) Messi- possibly the closest control of any player
3) Ronaldo- great combination of strength and dribbling
4) Ronaldinho- don't ever forget him, possibly the most creative of all time
5) Robben- incredible moves; a shame we don't see it more

I think the MOST EFFECTIVE dribblers are
1) Ronaldo- By far; Perfect integration with Man U system
2) Kaka- Sometimes unstoppable when combined with his speed
3) Messi- Puts incredible pressure on defenses combined with passing in tight space

Best of all-time
1) Garrincha- Just could not be stopped in TWO world cups
Everyone else: Maradonna, Giggs, Ronaldo (Brazil), Best, Denilson (great from 1997-2002, seemingly could do anything except score!)

Joe Cole not even close. Kader Keita, Uche, even Kanu are much better.

j cole is better than kanu

his wannabe stepover moves dont fool that many people and really aren't that clever, Kanu even with his old age and slow pace can still make defenders look silly. Joe Cole quite honestly is very overrated.

just wondering, how much of chelsea did you watch this season? He has been their best offensive player, constantly creating space and beating defenders with his dribbling.

a lot, I'm not saying he is not a good dribbler, he just does not deserve to be in a list with the likes of Messi, Ronaldo etc. There are a lot of better dribblers out there that get no recognition than Joe Cole, just my opinion.

i belive that robben and cristiano are not best driblers, but they are the mosts succesful because they are very fast, for me the best dribbler is ricardo quaresma and in south america alexis sanchez from chile but i think that their dribblings are very useless.

another good brazilian dribbler is dani alves he is awesome, the best dribllers in my country are juan pablo pino from as monaco and juan zuņiga that probably will sign for boca juniors, they are very young, but i think that in some years you are going to listen about them. i think that joe cole and ibra arent dribblers, thay are more characterized for have other skills

Being able to have such close control at high speed is a sign of a good dribbler for me

I agree with pepinointer. There is a difference between ball control and the ability to take on players and fake them out. There is also the ability to have great ball control at such a high speed and simply get passed players quickly(Ronaldo, Robben) then there is the ability to fake players out and get past them with moves and not really relying on speed (Quaresma, Robinho), and of course some use a combination of both, which is the deadliest. I think Ronaldo who many regard as the best dribbler is a mixture of the two but relys more on speed. Ronaldo is probably the worlds most effective dribbler. Many of the best dribblers in the world can be very ineffective for their club or countries because they can be selfish, have poor decision making, poor passing etc. ( Denilson was a great example)
