View Full Version : Procedure for Bringing Overseas Talent to US or Elsewhere?

This is a serious post from someone who's googled every USsoccer website and every soccer blog and its cousin for the past 3 days. My eyes are seeing double - much like Cech must've done when trying to stop that cross from Turkey. (ouch!)

Anyhow, I work with youth soccer players here in Long Island, NY. Not much in terms of talent for the masses, I know, but we have relations with parties in Italy. One is a former Lazio trainer, who came here and gave my kids a free clinic. He has players who originally signed with Lazio, then were loaned out, then sold. One GK specifically went from reserve on Lazio to Serie C, then back up to another Serie A club, started 3 games in the past 2 years, then bought by a Serie C club. Player is 24, probably realizes he won't be starting in Serie A any time soon. Wants to know about being seen by the Red Bulls.

Now, I know the guys who train the academy trainers there, but I'm not an agent, nor do I want to be one, (I'd have to let go of my academy duties.)

I'm reading how the MLS is expanding, so they'll need a bit more foreign players, (not growing as quickly as NASL years ago, but also not bringing in as many foreigners as Premiership has been, which is causing rules to change, as they feel it could be why their trophy closet is so bare - separate debate.) How could I take advantage of this relationship? I checked the MLS website, and there are currently NO players from Italy.

How can I get these players to Australia, to Korea league? Guys who have been better trained by their academy clubs than many kids in the world!
As the Man U's and Inter Milan's keep winning, competing, and making money - it's easier for them to buy a player from South America/Africa than give the teenager from their backyard a shot.

Lastly, when dealing w/ kids here in the US, you can NOT be an agent. And there are agents in Italy who are placing U13-U16 kids in academies. We do have kids here who would like to at least be seen by such academies. And we know that young soccer players can actually make better money in a B division overseas than an A here. (Plus, much of the Project 40/ training academy kids here in US aren't the best, but the best of the parents who have the money to spend - again, separate debate.) Has to be a way to get them out there as well.

Any website that focuses on this? Any articles I haven't found? Any central contact for players looking to be seen by US? By foreign country? How can this happen?

Thanks,
Jason

I checked the USL site and they have some info HERE. (http://www.uslsoccer.com/aboutusl/resume/index_E.html) It seems like it would be a good place to start.
