History counts because it reveals a trend. And the trend, unfortunately for the Spaniards, is Italian..
Maybe but trends end like they have this tournament so far: Italy havent lost to Holland for X number of years before this tournament, Italy havent beaten France in 30 years or so before this tournament, France have had at least one victory in a major competition in X number of years before this tournament, etc.
Like I said, history means very little.
A more apparent realization is that every group winner has been eliminated in the quarterfinals so far.
That's what I'm saying.

It will be a Real shame if Cassano doesn't score the winner.
baboom-ch.
And Totti.
*Insert a few pages of Roma and Juve fans arguing about Totti and Del Piero allegedly "doing nothing" for the Nazionale*
I just thought I'd get rid of the need for this to happen.

I hope Spain are the first to break the first group team duck, that will make way for the rematch of Euro 2008, which will see Spain spectacularly spazz out of the competition by a score of 4-1 to the Russians, you heard it here first lol.
Seriously though whats up with this trend?
Oh ok. Well... I'd love for that trend to continue tomorrow :D
Patience, and no predictions. ;)

I don't remember the French winning anything in 2002, probably the worst defense of a title I have ever seen.

All group stage winners are already out ... so guess how nervous the Spaniards will be tonight! ;)
Did they rest almost their whole A team as well against Greece? :-)

I think the Spaniards will not be sleeping tonight but sitting at the toilet :)

On the contrary I keep hearing a Spain victory from practically every medium available.
Going by averages I'd say the world is convinced of a Spain victory.
So what you're saying is, the Spanish are doomed. ;)

Yes, I believe 10 were rested. So I guess the motto so far is: rest one day and forget to wake up!

Loook at it though, look at who has won all of the quarterfinals so far. None of the group winners have advanced, advantage = Italy.
The history between the two teams, advantage = Italy.
The history of the teams in tournaments in general, advantage = Italy.
All of those signs are saying Italy will win tomorrow.
Regardless of the first three QF matches, La Furia Roja knew from the draw that to get to the semi-finals they would have to beat either France, Italy or Netherlands and that time has now come for them to step up and beat the Italians and move onto the semi-finals and final!! As I have said all along, the team that wins this quarterfinal will win the Euro 2008 Title.

OK, poor wording on my part... mea culpa. Can we please get back to the topic on hand? No offense, Caesar, but I'm sick to death of talking about that damn penalty.
Oh, same. I'm as over it as you are. Just as a referee I get a little anal about clarifing rules. :p

Just wondering... after watching Holland collapse last night... what does that say about other teams from their group that were so thorougly beaten by them. Russia played excellent but how bad is Holland really? Holland beat Italy 3-0, Russia beat Holland 3-1 and Spain beat Russia 4-1... so what should that make this scoreline, Spain 10 - Italy 2?
Anyhoo, I'm just kidding around obviously ... If the other quarterfinals are anything to go by then - anything can happen! But on current form, I've got to go with Spain on this one.

I'm going to lose the first prize in my pool tonight, but it will totally be worth it seeing as it means we'll have kicked Italy out of the EC....
...ok, it will be worth it if we do that and then win the EC....and if I then take a few days off to go to Spain and join the festivities. THEN it will totally be worth it.

I had a terrible nightmare last night... I dreamed that it was Germany and Spain in the final and Podolski scored the winner in extra time. Also Toni was crying because he couldn't score in the comp, while Ribery and Domenech were there and laughing like cartoon villains.
