Sigh.....
I guess I can take comfort knowing that if Eduardo wasn't injured we'd be in the finals :)

Try two nervous 22 year olds and a frustrated 26 year old.
Right. Totally forget Recber's incredible saves during the match including a laser beam feebie that shouldve gone in. He didnt even see that ball till bended around the wall.
Lost his head once but the dude was a complete warrior

I just don't see how it's a 'crazy ending.' It was a national team knockout round tourney match decided by PKs. How crazy is that?
The PK format took what should have been an exciting match and turned it into a farce.
Unfortunately, nobody's come up with a better system yet.

Croatia celebrated the goal for at least a minute not to mention the Nihat sub. Then Turkey gets the foul (or actually it may have been offsides for Croatia if i remember correctly) near the end of the whatever stoppage time the ref was planning to give, so i'm sure the game would've ended if Rustu's kick had been cleared, but it falled perfectly in the box for Senturk. That's football right there, it's a cruel, cruel game. Almost seems like Turkey was destined to win after that and they're wasn't much Croatia could do, you have to feel for their players and supporters. I hope Modric can bounce back quickly now as a Spurs fan.
Well right now Turkey/Germany sounds like it will be a pretty crazy match-up. IMO Tuncay and Arda have been Turkey's best players. I don't think anyone has a clue what their line-up will look like. Germany should win easily but honestly at this point after the last 3 matches for Turkey I don't know what to expect.

It's very unfortunate. Especially considering that we've reached the point where we can map DNA. You'd think we could come up with a way to have football championships decided by playing football.

I was always a fan of the golden goal...
but yep, there is no other system to end such a game..

"Modric", "Rakitic" or "Petric" ;)
Under CHOKE, you'll see the picture of Olic. What a disappointment he was!

Turkey is going to field 11 of their best defensive players, and hope for PK or that lucky last minute goal. There is no choice at this point, and I see that as the best plan.

The only other solution is keep playing, or play a replay and allow fair time for recovery. PKs are good enough, it isn't all crap shoot. The better team wins no matter how you look at it.

The better team wins?
They should have let the "Germans" Klasnic and the Kovac brother take the penalties. ;)

I liked Golden Goal too, but apparently when they tracked the stats the % of extra-time games that went all the way to penalties was about the same as under normal extra time. So in practice it wasn't really any more effective at getting a result.
The theory goes that teams play more defensively when they know that one slip means it's over, and you end up with about the same likelyhood of a result.

Turkey the most exciting team in this tournament? I do think so.
It sucks that they have a few players that can't play next game. Coming from a German supporter, I wish they could play those players, it would make the game more exciting.
I'm so used to one team making three straight consecutive comebacks in the dying moments of the game that it gets boring.
The better team wins?
Yes. The better GK makes the save. The better spot kick takers makes their PKs. The mentally stronger players win. The better players win. If it was easy, why didn't the two young Croats shoot between the posts?

Oh, ok. Apparently a goal in the 119th minute and a tying goal in the 120th isn't a crazy ending at all. And the fact that a team that was down by a goal in the 119th minute ends up winning. Nope, everyday stuff.

PKs are decided entirely by individuals. Soccer is a team game and that's what makes it so attractive.
We can't say if the best team won, or not, because we'll never know who the best team was.

That happened 10 minutes before the ending... Did you think that was the ending?

Individuals make up a team. When goals are scored, sometimes they are individual efforts.
Maybe PKs should be taken by the whole team, if you want to argue that it isn't a complete team effort. But at least 6 players from each team are involved. These guys aren't machines, there's so much running they can do before they collapse. In consideration for the players' health, it's a suitable solution. If you can't get it done in 120 minutes, then you live and DIE by the sword.

That happened 10 minutes before the ending... Did you think that was the ending?Well, technically, that IS the end of the match. The KFTPM are just to decide who progresses to the next round - in the books, the match will be recorded as a draw.
