With the team moving back across country to Miami to begin gearing up for the second leg of the series against Barbados, several players have been released back to their clubs or to begin their summer vacations. Training will resume in earnest tomorrow as Bob Bradley fills out the roster for the trip to the Caribbean.

The departed players: Brian Ching, Clint Dempsey, Steve Cherundolo, Landon Donovan, Brad Guzan, Frankie Hejduk, Maurice Edu, Sacha Kljestan, Pablo Mastroeni, and Matt Reis.

Uhhh...is this the list of players going to Barbados or the list of players released back to their teams?

Any sense of who might be being called in?

Gotta think it's a miscommunication and those are the guys who will be making the trip. Chivas isn't playing this weekend, so there's no reason to release Guzan adn Kljestan.

But they do play Thursday, so it seems they need to leave.

Right. The title is misleading. It doesn't say those players won't play against Barbados, just that they've left camp. Makes sense that Kljestan and Guzan might return after Thursday. Cherundolo and Dempsey leaving surprises me a bit, but I guess they've had long seasons.

We could send a team of current college all-stars and win in Barbados.

Bryan Perk (UCLA) or Chris Brown (Boston College) in goal.

Kevin Alston (Indiana) at RB, Omar Gonzalez (Maryland) and Nick Cardenas (San Diego State) at CB, Victor Cortez (San Francisco) at LB.

Sam Cronin (Wake Forest), Mike Pezza (Connecticut) at RM, Rodney Wallace (Maryland) at LM and Alejandro Bedoya (Boston College) in the hole behind the forwards.

Marcus Tracy (Wake Forest) and Andre Akpan (Harvard) up top.

Most of these guys have YNT experience and all of them will be pros, probably in a few months.

Hell, MLS would probably help pay for the trip just to give their coaches a chance to scout these guys together in a game environment. That, and not weaken any MLS teams in the process.

Is there any up and coming guy with a choice of countries that we could captie just to prevent him from leaving?

I've heard there's some guy in Europe named Rossi... might want to take a look at him...

are there any up and coming guys with a choice of countries that would be dumb enough to let us tie up their future just for a trip to barbados? if you were one of those guys, would you take the bait if you hadn't made up your mind yet?

Another kitten just died :D

Talk about a kid blowing it. Italy obviously doesn't want him and by the time (if ever) he decides to turn to his birth country, it will be too late here too. In fact, it might already be too late.

I would expect Guzan might join up with the team after the game on Thursday. These are the types of games he needs to play in to help his WP application when the time comes...

in case anyone was wondering, as i was, the link for this is at the NT blog:

http://mnt-ussoccer.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html#8543470622575032868

so, from the leg 1 roster, that means (I would guess) these guys did travel to Miami, to prepare for the trip to Barbados:

Oguchi Onyewu, Carlos Bocanegra, Heath Pearce, Eddie Jonson, Michael Bradley, Freddy Adu, DaMarcus Beasley, Eddie Lewis, Danny Calif

And guys who were on the initial 21-man camp roster (but did not dress for the first game), so I would assume they are also in Miami for training this week:
Dominic Cervi, Jay DeMerit, Tim Howard

that looks to be 12 players "at camp" this week, and I'm sure we'll see more players (perhaps) called in throughout the week and joining the team for the trip to Barbados.

I'd hate to see El Guzano do that. The guy has made 2 flights to Europe, a flight to NY, on top of his MLS travel schedule. Those long flights take a toll and can lead to injury or burn out. Let Reis start. He's an old pro & will handle the situation easily.

If Guzan and Reis are back w/ their clubs and Howard is injured - does this mean that Cervi is starting keeper for round 2?

Not to mention another chance to perfect the Empty Bucket.

All kidding aside, this is the perfect opportunity to break in some younger players.
