The equivilant of a mid-level MLS team coming to Austin. Who knows, may even open the east side of the Dragon for this one.

I say, ouch.

Three games in a row. I think we're going to have our butts handed to us on this one. I wonder what rules they're going to use for substitutions, etc. There's no way our primary 15 players are going to see more than a half, I'd think. Fortunately, along with the 26 players on our roster, there's other players in reserve. I have no clue how many of those there are, but I'd expect them to see some playing time against Tigres.

Just for that reason, it should be a fun game to watch.

I haven't been able to find a roster on their official website (http://www.tigres.com.mx/Default.aspx), and didn't have any luck with a US fans of the team website. Wikipedia has the only list (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UANL_Tigres) I was able to find. I don't follow FMF except for the occasional "My wife's on the computer and there's nothing on so I'll watch while I'm eating" game.

Tigres have a connection with FCD, so this is a cool thing. I wonder if Dallas pointed Tigres our direction.

I remember that the Posse played a similar game against, oddly enough, Tigre's second team (http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showpost.php?p=2352293&postcount=23). They drew about 2,000 for that game. Sounds like this isn't going to be the case here (the youth team). With the coverage the Aztex are getting on Univision, etc., I expect there should be a decent turnout. Considering how well the Aztex have done with marketing, they might have to consider opening up the other side. Seeing that a crap organization like the Posse were able to sucker 2,000 people to pony up for the Tigre's U-20 team, the Aztex should be able to get at least 3,000 for the real thing.

Anyone interested in having a 'Austin pro soccer' horror flashback can entertain themselves here (http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=105998&highlight=Austin+Posse).

Thanks for that link. That thread has improved with age. At the time it wasn't so funny. :-)

It's an easy sellout crowd over 5,000.

You had to bring that awful nightmare back did you VC. :D

I would imagine that FC Dallas had to do with Tigres since they have a partnership with the club just like the partnership with Atletico Parananese (sp?) where Ricardinho & Andre Rocha came from. perhaps Tigres are going to play FC Dallas next after the Aztex-Tigres game just for preparation before their season starts again.

It's going be a tough task for Suhnholz to rotate his regular starters and his reserve players in those 3 games. Perhaps the starters on Friday & Sunday against El Paso & Tigres and the reserves on Saturday against Baton Rouge.

Well, being as I've consistently under predicted, you could be right on the number. I can be talked to as high as 4,000, but I'm not going to budge any higher than that.

However, it won't be a sellout, unless you're only counting one side of the stadium.

Dragon holds 8800. Home side holds 5,000.

I've been thinking about it, and I'm starting to convince myself that they need to open the other side.

That would be a good guess. The two teams are both sitting in 3rd place, so they'll be gunning for us even a little more than they might any typical 1st place team.

I'd much prefer seeing the regular starters Friday & Saturday, and reserves on Sunday.

Yeah, the fans deserve a good game against Tigres. And I know the starters would really love to match themselves up against Tigres.

But we win the division, and the fans are going to get at least one more good game at the end of it all.

Competition-wise, I agree with you. But how many times will the Aztex have the opportunity to impress a few thousand local soccer fans who may not otherwise come to a game? Business considerations may trump.

I read the entire string, and was absolutely amazed at the disorganization (polite way of saying, "misleading, deceitful and clueless") of the Austin Posse. It sounds like it really tests the validity of the statement, "In a couple of years we're going to look back on this and LAUGH!!".

Here's the the exact opposite of the Posse experience...

Getting the regular starters to play on Friday and then having them to play the next day would be too much on their physical condition and fatigue level. It's asking them too much on their bodies. So a day off after the match would be helpful for them to prepare for Sunday's game.

Two players that caught my my are "Kiki" Fonseca & Blas Perez. I thought Perez was playing for some 2nd division club in Spain.

It is a good reminder as to why many people [raises hand] were cautious when Phil announced this team.

True. And at this point, we have a 10 point lead over the 3rd place team with 6-7 games left in the season.

...Ouch. Just looked at the other team's games left.

El Paso has 6 games left -- 3 against Laredo and 2 against us. Man, do they play an unbalanced schedule.

I guess we're in a good enough position that we could afford to give our first team a rest against Baton Rouge. In fact, now that I look at it more closely, of the three 3rd place teams, only El Paso has won an away game. If things continue like that, while we haven't wrapped up a playoff spot, it's already getting to be very hard for any of them to take it from us.

OK. I've been convinced. We can afford to put our 2nd team out there against Baton Rouge.

Still hate the idea of risking a perfect home record, though.

What ARE the playoff spots in the division? For that matter, what's the playoff structure for the PDL?

I can't say for sure.

Last year (http://www.uslsoccer.com/standings/6187507.html), there were 4 conferences, each with 2 divisions. The top two teams from each division were in the playoffs, and the playoffs were cross conference. That is, #2 Mid-South played #1 Southeast, and #1 Mid-South played #2 Southeast.

This year, it's not so clear cut for the Central and Eastern conferences. The rules page says (http://www.uslsoccer.com/aboutusl/rules/index_E.html)

The conference playoffs, featuring the top two clubs from each division will take place July 27-29

We can probably assume for our conference (Southern) that, since there's only two divisions, everything will be the same. So we should expect #2 Mid-South against #1 Southeast, and #1 Mid-South against #2 Southeast.

I'll be intrigued to see how the 3 division conferences will set up their playoffs. Probably 1-2, 1-2, 1-2, then the top winner gets a rest on Saturday, while the other two winners play. Painful.

so yeah im a Tigres fan...strait up..i loved this team since i was born...it would be a dream for me to play there.

We have played FCD a couple of times in the Dallas Cup..last two series we've beaten them in our stadium(Estadio Universitario aka "El Volcan")

you should expect a lot of people at the game, people from Houston and Dallas are coming to watch Tigres play because thats where most of the people from that City live..and in our City the popularity of Tigres is amazingly great...we're talking about stadiums that get more than 90% full everytime we're home:) so expect a big crowd for TIGRES

its gonna be a good prep match for us..

and we have way better players than Kikin Fosenca, Blas Perez. We have Lucas Lobos(#16,maybe injured at game), Guillermo Marino(#11) we have a pretty good defense with Hugo Sanchez Guerrero(#20) Jose Rivas(#24) and plenty of others like Antonio Sancho, Javier Saavedra, Mario Ruiz, Carlos Esquivel and a few other young ones that should be good to watch..

I hope the aztex are ready for TIGRES...
