Sweden aimed for a draw from the beginning, and this gameplan killed them. Russian midfield took over quickly, it was just a matter of time when they would score.

Arshavin is a difference maker. I don't know why everyone says that this result reflects Swedish incompetence, I think it reflects Russia's capability more.

Mainly because Swedens passing was horrific. They'd miss a pass under no pressure what so ever. That and the inability to be tactically flexible.

Congrats to Russia on a splendid performance and on reaching the ko round for the 1st time since 20 years! Tonight's impressive counter-attacking football (Guus Hiddink's handwriting) reminds of the "Sbornaja" from 1986 & 1988...
To be honest, I didn't expect this Russian team so strong (after what I've seen during the qualifiers & the game against Spain). It seems they are getting better from game to game...
If they can keep up this play for the 1/4 final, the Dutch have to watch out ... especially, since Guus (one of my fav managers) knows them pretty well!
Should be a very interesting game!
Btw: Arshavin is a joy to watch!!!
PS: Pity for Henke ... but his Swedes were simply too inferior tonight!

Looking at the average age of the Swedish players, they probably got the oldest squad at the Euro-08... and I think it showed in this match... They seemed tired and some of them struggle with injuries...

I guess living in such a thoroughly corrupt society, it's hard for him to imagine that any other country could be playing fair.
It was SWEDEN and DENMARK that played to the 2-2 draw. NOT Italy.
Do you even know what you are talking about.
Now go home like you usually do.
Sweden can only play hockey and even that's a stretch. !!

I wish we could clone Larson, he's a joy to watch.. and considering his age that's impressive

This game should be 6-0 for Russia with the chances theyve had.
Indeed.
However, if they want to beat Holland, they can't afford wasting so many chances!
It was a really, really bad display. Disheartening to see in a must-win game, gotta say.
I didn't expect your guys that bad tonight! I still don't know whether the Russians were so strong or you so poor...

The Russians don't even TRY to have an organized defense, so logically they should concede at least 3 goals against Holland.
Holland would probably have had more problems with Sweden.
The Russian style of play is certainly charming though, especially the full-backs.

But their defence was very solid against Greece and tonight. Don't forget that you didn't get one good scoring opportunity ... and as we all know, your strikers (Zlatan, Henke, Elmander, Rosenberg) are anything but average!

That might be a reason for tonight's performance against the youngest team of the competition.

Swedens offense is usually average, at best.
In this match, it was pathetic.
It's not a team that can or even wants to dominate matches and have ball-posession, it wants to sit back and hope for a 1-0 victory.
And usually it does that very well.

Henke is da best! :)
But I fear this was his last game for Sweden...

Larsson said after the match that he'll keep playing for the national team, and they don't have anyone better at this point, so i assume they'll let him.
He's no goal scorer anymore, but his passing game and intelligence are amazing.

Then why the ***** do you not remove his insults, but start editing away absolutely good points about the actual games, while letting his insults stand ?!... You just made me so angry that I wont post here again !! ...

But the reason aren't the strikers but the lack of creativity in midfield.
Larsson said after the match that he'll keep playing for the national team
Really? That's good news for all Svenska fans. ;)
Let him become the Swedish record national player (or is he already?) ... then he'll take over the manager job at Celtic Park! :)

From my russian side, i enjoyed Larsson's play - really, he's king of kings :), but Ibra showed a pitiful performance :(, and Sweden mids are even more pitiful... Sweden has something to do with them, Elmander can't just make a cross!
