Canada looks to be in good shape heading back to Stade Saputo for the second leg this Friday.
Ali Gerba scored 2 goals despite him not starting. I didn't see the game, anyone have a few reviews of the game ?

it wasn't televised. but it sounded as if svg had some good chances on canada so i think a 3-0 win is fantastic - especially considering it was soo damn hot there.
anyone else making the trip to montreal?
i'm heading out on a bus with a buddy - looks like they're still trying to fill the bus. i have 4 extra tickets in 114 if anyone is interested. pm if so.
brennan made an appearance towards the end of the game i hear...
go reds!

I listened to the whole game on radio feed. To me it sounded as though it was a bit more back and forth then one would of hoped for. Seemed to me as though Canada came out a bit slow at the start. St. V&G did have a couple nice chances but failed to capitalize on them. However, on our side, Ali Gerba missed an open net shot and there was a few really good saves by the substitute keeper for St. V&G in the second half.
The score line could have been a lot different, but I don't necessarily mean that Canada should have won 6 - 0, it could have been 3 - 2 or something really close like that. I'll gladly take this 3 - 0 win on the road.
And I am going to Montreal, my first national team game. So pumped!

On soccernet.com, I've noticed that the game has been posponed to Sunday June 22nd.
Does anyone have any aditional information??? is it going to be broadcasted????
And by the way.... WTF is wrong with the Canadian Soccer Association... this should be marketed all over, but instead it is very dificult to find any information regarding the upcomming game... I wanted to watch the first leg but forgot about it... there was no mention of it during the TFC game, and if they did mention it.... I did not notice.... Media has to do a better Job supporting the national men's team.... it is sad....makes you wonder  ....

He's right though. Soccernet is saying it's postponed...I don't see how they could though, at this time...too many people coming from Toronto, Ottawa, Quebec City, or whereever we happen to be. With so little notice, it'd be really shafting us all. Oh well, I've sent a message off to some CSA guy, we'll see if he responds before August.

The Canadian Soccer Association is probably the single biggest factor retarding the growth of the sport in Canada. Not with regards to participation, but in regards to the national team and player development. The United States looks like a soccer mad country compared to Canada, when in reality I don't think the proportion of fans is much different.
In the US all important National team games are on ESPN and the US soccer website does more than enough to provide videos and other features. In Canada you probably have one guy working in a cubicle filing paperwork and not returning calls from TV broadcasters.

...retarding...
Is this choice of word intentional or Freudian? ;)

I'd go so far as to say the proportion of fans is higher here, based on attendance in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver vs those for MLS and USL teams in the US.
The main reason is that there is very little respect for the CMT in this country even by soccer fans. Most are more concerned about the national team of where their parents come from than our own. Seriously, I know tonnes of soccer fans and very few even knew or cared that we had a WC qualifier this weekend.

I think that if the NMT games were advertised and televised they would get the attention of most soccer fans in Canada... This games are not friendlies.... this count for something... I am not born in Canada, moved up here late on my teen years... I have many friends of similar history and I know that eventhough we have "home teams" to cheer for, we would also cheer for our "second home team"... I want to see canada soccer develop... i wanto to cheer for Canada in the world cup, but i can't because the Canadian Soccer Association is doing a poor ass job!!!!... that simple.

It's way after the fact, but what radio feed did you listen to, just out of curiosity?
Have fun at the game!

Simple fact .. Canada is not a soccer country, not even close to being one. I wish it would get more of the spotlight, too. I guarantee that hardly anyone in Canada even knows they're playing World Cup qualifiers now. That's just sad.

I would say that we now are. It's now the biggest participation sport for children in Canada, and that will eventually manifest itself in better players coming out of this country and popularity of professional teams.
If the CMNT makes it to the WC this time aorund, I think that will be the catalyst that will have people in this country taking the team seriously.

The game isn't Sunday - it's tonight in Montreal. 7:30 I think ... better jump in the car now!
