I was tempted to take my father to that game for Fathers Day, we are both avid US soccer fans. To be quite honest im glad we didnt go. There is a point when the play on the field is sad and that was the case sunday. This game was over in minutes. I had a hard time even watching it on TV. Only Freddy Adu being put on the pitch kept my attention somewhat. Other than that it really wasnt much entertainment value.

Maybe people stayed home to watch an Argentina stream. The way we've been playing, I'm surprised US-Barbados drew 11,000. First Nats game I skipped in a while.

The way the U.S. has been playing? What do you mean?
We beat Poland 3-0 away,we tied the number 1 team in the world.
What are you talking about?

Ask the 60,000 people who stayed away from US-Barbados what I'm talking about. I didn't even watch it from my house. Don't get me wrong. Half of the reason was Barbados. ;)

Two words...David Beckham.

If the LA Galaxy played Barbados anywhere in the US they would out draw the USMNT vs. Barbados.

Sad but true!! Then again, it says more about the opponent than a "lack of support" for the USMNT!!

Nevertheless, I went to the HDC, had a GREAT time, as always, & saw my USMNT score 8 goals...something I might never see again...in a WCQ!!

NO regrets!!

Massive portions of the HDC were not open for ticket sales. I'm not entirely sure the reasons for this, but the entire end-line behind one goal and all of the upper decks were not available for sale. That being said, even the tickets which were for sale did not sell out, so I agree that a WCQ should have a better showing, even against Barbados.

That probably had to do with the fact that they knew they wouldn't sell out, so they probably tried to keep the crowd together.

But they did draw some of the Galaxy. We bumped into Ruud Gullit on the concourse before the start of the game. He was not interested in chatting however even after my friend addressed him in Dutch. He was using crutches and moved along surprisingly quick. Anyone know what happened to him?

he had something like MCL or ACL surgery a few weeks ago.

This implies that the Galaxy only draw well because of David Beckham which is just completely untrue.

The Galaxy have always averaged at the top of the league in excess of 20,000 fans a game. All the Becks allowed was for them to jack up ticket prices. Attendance has barely increased because it was great to begin with.

Doesn't AEG run things for marketing of the U.S. and Mexican National Teams in our nation? All done via SUM??? Then the match is played at AEG's home ground and there is still nill marketing done. It's a WCQ and perhaps we don't get a sold out Rose Bowl but with proper marketing behind our National Team, 20K in L.A. for a Qualifier should be a done deal.

Looks like the BB Kool Aid is being passed around.

Poland was good but they're a tier 2 Euro team. Most likely on par with Mexico

We scored zero goals in three games against better teams. Yes we tied Argentina and even looked better but that is not the same as a win

I suspect it was money vs value. I wouldn't bother going to that game if it was across the street. People that enjoyed a slaughter like that would have cheered for the lions in a Roman Colosseum.

These CONCACAF minnows should have to playoff each other and only one team going forward. This type of game does nobody any good

With money on the table, I'd go with Mexico every time against Poland. And, I can't believe that I'm saying this, even Mexican heads of state don't speak publicly of wanting to kill match officials.

Honestly the reason the crowds are so low is half the US fans are constant whiners and the other half only cares about the World Cup.

If we don't beat teams like Argentina and Spain fans complain and refuse to show up. Most other fans don't even follow WCQers. When we do get low crowds people make 100 complaints about it being to hot or on a bad weekend. Maybe if Beckham showed up we could get a few more LA glory hunters to show up.

The truth is the only time we get sell outs is when we play a team that fills 75% of the stadium with their fans.

Mexico had 50k+ fans show up in 100 degree Houston weather to see their team struggle to beat Belize 2-0.

Shows what real support is. Makes me embarrassed to call myself a US supporter sometimes when you compare our support to every other country in the world.

Pls stop the denials and excuses and admit that the US has sub par soccer support.

You're proud of this?

I was offered a free ticket to the Mexico game. I stayed home and watched the US instead. I'm a US Nats fan, who they play doesn't change how much I love watching them.

But I do understand what a few posters have said about not going to games against lesser opponents with the over abundance of games in CA. I've been to every US game ever played in Houston - 2, both against Mexico.

No, it's just a fact. The thread is wondering why people didn't come out. The reasons I'm offering is 1) the team is really boring right now, and 2) a poorer than poor opponent. You thought you'd LIKE the reason people didn't want to watch?

A bit "harsh" IMO but the only team that L.A. truly cares about is the Lakers...and that is a fact!!

Just glad that the Galaxy have a rock-solid fan base...wish it would transfer to the USMNT!! But the obvious answer is the different nationalities in So Cal & their "allegience" to their national teams above the USA!!

I do believe there are a lot of USA fans on the west coast...it's just that they're in Oregon & Washington state, though there are many of us in So Cal, too!!

Hopefully, we will get a Hex game next year...that doesn't involve any Central American team, any holidays or a Lakers playoff game, LOL!!

US Soccer Fans support their team when they play real opponents.

Barbados is not worth the average US national team fan's time. When our WCQs occur against Mexico, Canada, or Central America, the fans will show.

It's really that simple.

What a pathetic response. We won't play at the HDC against Mexico or strong Central American teams. It's not like we played our 2nd stringers.

I went and was all hyped up to bring my kids and wife to their 1st patriotic WC qualifier, and I was embarrass that our team was not supported at all. The atmosphere was as bad as watching a college team. Hardly even any red white and blue. The players deserve better that that.

Your response makes me sick.
