Sorry. I'm bored at work and I knew this would be fun:

Can he really be worse than EJ right now?
Has he shown what he can do if he had some good service?
What would he be like with Adu and Donovan?

Don't put me in a corner, I'm just wondering.

Edson has been capped once in 2003.

He needs the right person to play off of in CONCACAF.

Cool points if anyone can tell me which game Edson got his cap in.

If you need a hint let me know.

I remember Buddle was someone we thought could be a key talent for us back in 2003 and 2004. He's had some serious personal and character issues prevent him from getting anywhere near the senior set up. I remember calls for a Buddle-EJ pairing or Buddle-Cunningham back in the day.

His talent was never really the issue. It is a shame he wasted most of it.

Considering our line leading forwards have had two goals from the run of play in the past two years against halfway decent competition (Dempsey against Brazil and Altidore against Mexico), I'm up for giving anyone a shot up top.

Japan in Seattle?

(Wild guess. For some reason that games sticks out.)

Edit: Okay, I just checked. And to be fair, I'm not going to say what the correct answer is, just that I'm wrong. First time for everything. ;)

Seattle is correct!

But not Japan.

I've always loved Buddle's game. Explosive, smooth, and under control. The problem has been injuries and legal issues. I think his trade away from Colombus really put a dent in him for a while. I think he just didn't feel comfortable in NY and Toronto. He needed stability and it has been found in LA. Buddle has regained that focus and his explosive game. He's gonna to earn a recall if he's form continues. Landon will see to it that Bob knows. He's hot right now and that's what you want in strikers. I actually think a Buddle-Johnson partnership could work. Nothing to base that on but I just have that feeling.

Edson has 8 goals this year: 3 with his right foot, 3 with his head, and 2 with his left foot. He has all the tools you look for in a striker and there's every reason to give him another chance with the MNT. It wouldn't surprise me if BB likes Buddle better than Cooper, even though Kenny's play has been too good to ignore completely.

Buddle is indeed the more orthodox forward of the two and Bob is the Ultra Orthodox one.

I want to see Buddle take that next step and score five in a game. :)

But seriously his team moves the ball around the attacking third better than any other setting up scoring opportunities and half chances. Edson's got the technical skills and physical tools to eat 'em up week in week out.

Like I posted elsewhere he's basically a more polished but a little less talented version of Altidore.

Both Buddle and Cooper have been too good to ignore. And no one who is scoring should be overlooked at this point.

I'm by no means discounting BB's ability to ignore the obvious though.

We're about as toothless as they come from a scoring perspective against real competition.

Hell, his son scored eleventy billion goals in Holland but look at the way Bob plays him...

Bob's ability to overlook the obvious.

Why convert a 26 year old forward into a winger instead of trying to give a true winger the experience to make the position his?

I've been a huge doubter of Buddle, even after his Dallas hat trick.

To me, he still needs to prove he's not a complete head case capable of moping his way through a season or even a big match.

That said, I had the pleasure of being directly above the net for his last two finishes on Saturday. That was quality. Especially the second -- a diving header directed across the face of goal into the far corner. Seriously top notch.

Perhaps more importantly -- for him at least -- his work off the ball was much better than I've seen. He has said publicly that "it's an honor" to play with Beckham, so just maybe this is the wake up call we've all been waiting for. Maybe he can actually see his own potential and do the work necessary to reach the next level.

If he keeps it up, and keeps scoring, I have no doubt Bradley will never cap him.

I actually remember seeing it, I just didn't remember the game.

If this hot streak doesn't earn him a look, not much will.

I mean, 8 goals in 5 games is a pretty scorching pace, even for the notoriously streaky Buddle.

Look, Luca Toni didn't break out till he was about 26 so perhaps something simlar is happening with Buddle, too.

As many of us have noted, talent has never been the problem with him, just putting it altogether and getting consistent.

I think he's worth a look but I also think Cooper should be getting regular minutes with the Nats, too, and that hasn't gotten him shit. It remains to be seen if that says more about me or Bradley.
