game in concern for the players," said MetroStars President and General

important match and to provide the fans an memorable one. It was a good
decision for all parties to move the game to a more appropriate date."
The MetroStars defeated the New England Revolution Wednesday, August 27,
2-1, in the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open Cup in front of 3,853 fans at
Yurcak Field, on the campus of Rutgers University. Midfielder Amado Guevara
scored the game-winning goal in the 25th minute of overtime after a

the game just before the half.
The MetroStars advanced to the quarters of the prestigious

the game-winner - in the second half and defender Steve Jolley added
another, as the "Red and Black" blasted three unanswered goals in the second
half, to overcome a two-goal deficit. Pope's goals marked his first for the
Metros with the game-winner coming in the 86th minute.

goals as a Metro in the spirited match-up.
