A few games were held yesterday ... and a few surprises were had along the way.

Costa Rica are very very lucky to be where they are. Grenada had a stonewall penalty turned down at 2-0 up in the first half. Should have been a penalty and a sending off for the defender as he was the last man (basically American football tackled Roberts in the box while holding his shirt).
Keystone Cop defending for the first Costa Rican goal and the Grenadian winger was stupidly (and deservedly) sent off for throwing an elbow.
Easily could have been 5-2 to Grenada with all the chances, but now that the Ticos have survived, you have to think that the islanders have blown their chance and Costa Rica will advance.

Well, the Ticos still have -barely- the upper hand, but the islanders surprisingly shown some football, if they have the wherewithal to play with the ticos desperation and effectively bunker and counter, we may see an upset.
Medford is an idiot and should be fired regardless of the outcome.

Draw isn't enough for Grenada though (unless they get to 2-2 or 3-3), so, realistically they have to win at the Saprissa, not just hold Costa Rica. Tall order in my opinion.

Can't help but think back to last time when they squeaked past Cuba on away goals in this round.
The Ticos have been on a slow but steady decline for a while now. Canada and Honduras are stepping up to take their place.

The islanders still have a fighting chance to win this, I didnt watch the game but according to the papers, they had Costa Rica against the ropes, but they have to score, if the ticos score first; is all over.

I watched extended highlights. They should have scored 5. Different situation in Costa Rica though.

If Grenada can get a result in Saprissa, then they'll fully deserve to advance.

I don't think there's an away goals rule.
Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.
So four results so far to report:
Grenada 2: Costa Rica 2 (First Leg)
Puerto Rico 2: Honduras 2 (Honduras thru 6-2 on aggregate)
Suriname 1: Guyana 0 (First leg)
Guatemala 6: St. Lucia 0 (First Leg)
That's not a bad result for Puerto Rico, which let's be honest doesn't have the resources to match a country like Honduras. The Honduran goals were by David Suazo and Wilson Palacios, so this was no Honduras B team.
The third match is also a bit of an upset. Guyana is favored to go thru that matchup.
I'll just remind everybody of the situation as it pertains to the next round:
Group 1:
USA Barbados June 15 June 22
Guatemala Saint Lucia 6–0 June 216
Trinidad and Tobago Bermuda June 15 June 22
Antigua and Barbuda Cuba June 15 June 22
Group 2:
Belize Mexico June 157 June 21
Jamaica Bahamas June 15 June 188
Honduras 6–2 Puerto Rico 4–0 2–2
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Canada June 159 June 20
Group 3:
Grenada Costa Rica 2–2 June 21
Suriname Guyana 1–0 June 22
Panama El Salvador June 15 June 22
Haiti Netherlands Antilles June 15 June 22
The only team that's advanced so far is Honduras.
Please look at what happens to group 3 if Costa Rica actually go out to Grenada. You're looking at a semifinal round of presumably Grenada, Guyana, Panama, and Haiti. I know its unlikely Grenada will beat Costa Rica at the Saprissa Stadium, but hey they weren't bad against the US in Cowlumbus. They have some decent players like Roberts and Shalrie.
Keep in mind Group 2 looks to be Mexico, Honduras, Jamaica, and Canada. YOWZA!!

There is, Costa Rica knocked Cuba out on away goals (2-2 in Havana, 1-1 in San Jose) this time last campaign.

When all of CONCACAF looks at the scores, the USA will stand out obviously.

That must have been one of the worst Mexico's games since the Gold Cup, while Belize bunkered skillfully, the lack of will and imagination was shocking. If somebody thought that only the sight of the green jersey was going to win the game was sadly mistaken.
There was never danger from Belize, and Mexico's GK probably touched the ball twice, 0-2 was an embarrassment, not because the score was low, but for how we performed in this game.
CONCACAF refs must be the worst in the world.
