Adidas and their recent sizing...

Walked into Dick's sporting goods earlier this year to pick up a new pair of black shorts and a new black shirt (one of my teams decided to switch colors in the spring). I went for Adidas as I have always liked their kits.

Anyhow, I usually wore XL Adidas trunks and a L Adidas jersey. I started poking around the racks and picked out a shirt and trunk that I liked, but thought that sizing looked funny. Sure enough, after a trip into the dressing room, I discovered that the XL trunks now came down past my knees and the L jersey was so small that it looked painted on my body.

What and why the change for 08? It certainly wasn't my height/weight. Now I'm an XL or XXL jersey that fit like their old L's did, and in shorts to get the length that I want, I'm a Medium. But there is not much legroom in a M. It's like Adidas soccer shorts are now the same as their basketball shorts. Who wears those things that long?

With a search on the net, I found that shorter (6.5" inseam) shorts are now a rare short in the Adidas lineup.

So out I walked with a Nike kit. Thanks Adidas...

Since someone else has opened a sizing thread, I'll add my thoughts. Regarding Adidas, I think they've gone the opposite direction at least in terms of replicas. Nike is really guilty of sizing up, too, I think. I bought a PSG jersey this past season and the thing is ridiculously wide. Now, I'm a pretty skinny guy, but it's bordering on ridiculous.

Also, I just got the new France jersey, and the thing is flared! As in, it's wider at the bottom than at the chest. C'mon Adidas...it's not a dress! Anyone else notice this with the new adidas shirts?

In terms of being true to size, I think that Umbro and Puma are the best in this department.

As far as the shorts go, adidas still has plenty of shorts that are 6.5". Did you check soccer.com, or the adidas website? I also wear extra large, and in the past, I wore 6" shorts, but found that the shorts got in my crotch a lot. I now wear 6.5" shorts, and dont have the nooks and cranny problems anymore. You can try aquilla, entrada, campo, squadra, or striker(which I think is a piece of crap, the shorts move around).

The adidas shorts worn the pros are closer to 10", which basically means that if you wear your shorts on your hip, they would go past your knees, except if you pull them up over your waist.

Another option is to go a size smaller, if it is going to be comfortable. From what I know the inseam measurements that are listed are based on medium sized shorts.
