Podolski for Malouda and Villa for Drogba!
Er...not so fast.
If Drogba wants to stay, we'd only be downgrading our offense with a replacement.

Podolski for Malouda and Villa for Drogba!
Podolski is not a winger and while he has looked great on the international stage and is wonderful finisher a bit like Arsenal's Eduardo, he doesn't seem to have the mentality to play at a big club. He looks more like Newcastle level player.
As for Drogba, the news here (http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_3689913,00.html) is encouraging. Why not Villa for Sheva, that sounds better and more likely IMO.
For me 4 players are needed
1 striker: Gomez, Huntelaar
1 second striker: Villa, Martins,
1 winger: David Silva, Fábio Coentrão (odd, but watched him in WYC and he was impressive, a bit like Robben)
1 attacking midfielder or CM: Diego, Aquliani, Van der Vaart, Moutinho (not impressed)
For me is Lampard left, instead of the a pure attacking midfielder, I'd prefer someone like an Aquliani and from Sporting instead of Moutinho a player like Vuckevic.

Er, Podolski plays for a big club already...Bayern Munich. He has been great for Bayern while he has been on the pitch which is why Loew selected him for Germany.
Unfortunatly, Hitzfield prefered the Toni/Klose combo up front instead, and can you blame him for that?
Hitzfield was the original manager to try him out on the left as a winger. He has played there for his club and for Germany, so whose to say he isn't a winger?

I said that he plays at a big club. Well not directly, however, I meant to say that he was a big fish at FC Köln and doesn't seem to have the mentality to succeed at a bigger club in Bayern. He failed to win a place in his Natural role as a forward, which is why he was pushed out wide. He has played more games than either Toni or Klose and has still failed to dislodge them in his prefered role. Remember in the WC, he won the Young player of the tournament playing as a striker/forward.
As for playing as a winger, he doesn't have the passing, crossing, or speed to play out their and the goals he has scored for Germany have all been centrally from a striker/forward position. I certainly wouldn't pick him their ahead of more natural players.

I believe that we tried to sign Aquilani to a contract back in the early 2000s. He rejected it as Roma has been the club he's supported as a kid. Good player though.

Thats fair enough, and yer man Podolski is a decent player, but if we're going for a winger, somebody natural like Ashley Young would be far better.

I edited your typo ;) (although I may still need writing lessons). :D
I don't think Scolari will have more of an inclination towards Latin/South American players though, especially if its wingers. However your previous guy is similar to Simao. Come to think of it they are quite similar. Hmmmm, the wisdom of old Clan prevails again.

Good point! As always, very insightful.

If we were to sign Podolski (unlikely) then I'd want him to play as the #2 striker off of Drogba.

Before I jump to anymore conclusions as to what a good signing would be and who would be paired up well with who...question to those fans that have more knowledge on Scolari than the rest...
Does or has he ever played with a 4-3-3- formation?? I have seen Brazil often play with a 4-3-2-1 when not using a 4-4-2 and I believe Portugal are a 4-4-2. Chelsea will need wingers that are able to play wide off the midfield rather than off of a lone CF. Assuming Scolari uses a the 442 at Chelsea.

Who's gonna make room for that midfielder?

As much as I'd really like to see a great creative attacking mid join us, who in the world would he replace? Essien? Ballack? Lampard? Surely none of them would sit unless Scolari plans on bringing some of Brasil over to London with him.
The only way I can see us bringing over another attacking mid is if we were to drastically alter our current formation, as in a 4-3-2-1, or 4-3-1-2 type of deal.

I would be all for singing VDV and then sending him on loan for a season before bringing him back and putting him a midfield rotation of Ballack (32 at the time), Lampard (31), Essien and Mikel.
May sound a little silly to sign him and then loan him out, but he wants away from his current club, has proven himself in a physcially demanding league, and has caught the eye so far in the Euros.

Looking at the current age of our two ACM, Ballack and Lampard, and the fact that their is no news on the latter signing a new contract lends me to believe that we are after one. Actually, if I remember correctly, didn't Bruce Buck say, specifically that we were signing an attacking midfielder or an attacker? I'm not sure.

...Loan?
Why in the world would we sign a world class attacking mid, and then loan him out?

well if we bring him in where is he going to play?
Probably an easier sell in a season when Lampard is another year old and Ballack will have most likely 1-2 seasons left at top gear.
just an idea.
