What happened with Marica??

It appears that M.Niculae will start because of his superior fitness. Marica apparently is not fully fit and up-to-speed after the head injury. However, you will probably see Marica come in sometime after the 60th minute.

Hai Romania! Come on Romania!

Edit: Jesus, that's tough to read.

Here's what it says:

Olanda:

---------------------------Steklenburg-------------

--------Melchiot-----Heitinga----------Bouma--------De Clear-----

-----------------------De Zeeuw---------Engelaar--------

-----Van Persie-------------Affelay-------------Robben------

----------------------------Huntelaar----------------------

Romania:

---------------------------Lobont-------------

--------Contra-----Tamas----------Ghionea--------Rat-----

------------Cocis-----------Chivu---------Codrea--------

-----------Nicolita-------------------------------Mutu---------

----------------------------M. Niculae----------------------

This is the Dutch line-up as given in a Dutch newspaper (De Telegraaf):

-------------Van der Sar-------------

Melchiot---Heitinga---Bouma---De Cler

--------De Zeeuw---Engelaar---------

Affelay-------Van Persie-------Robben

--------------Huntelaar--------------

Thus, instead of Stekelenburg. van der Sar will play.

In my opinion this line-up cannot be called the 'B'-squad. With players like Affelay, van Persie, Robben and Huntelaar, the Dutch still have one of the best attack of the tournament. The backline is indeed includes all 'second' players on that position, however there's a lot of competition in the team and these players cannot be considered as less then the backline in the normal line-up. Furthermore, de Zeeuw instead of de Jong is also logically, since de Jong already has a yellow card, and de Zeeuw has always been in the starting line-up before this tournament. Maybe this team is even better at this moment, considering the fact that these players may want to prove themselves.

yes that's what i'm afraid of. i agree that the dutch reserves are great players, but i hope that maybe they aren't in a good form (since although beeing very good they are not in the first 11). anyway i'm sure we will see a very motivated romanian squad tonight. a team that will do everything in it's power in order to win :)

On the Dutch national television (NOS) it has been said that the squad that the Netherlands will field will be almost the same as the previously given squad, although there are some changes in that Mathijssen will play instead of Bouma and Sneijder will play instead of Affelay.

I don't think this makes much of a difference, only Sneijder strenghtens the squad a bit. It's somewhat sad that Affelay doesn't make the starting line-up, I would really like to see whether he's capable of playing his style of football on the level of the European Championships.

If Romania wins vs. that lineup, they'll definitely deserve the full 3 points. Especially their defense...what a scary "reserve" front four even if Robben and Van Persie might be expected to start the QF matchup.

I'm hoping for an open, clean game. It'll be a fun game to watch as an Oranje fan given that a loss means the always dangerous France and Italy are out and a win - well, winning is always fun to watch!

I don't think the Dutch will get riled up or contest 50/50 balls with stupid tackles, so I'm not as worried about cards...but I really hope Romania plays clean (it can be hard for any team to fight for their lives and not make a dirty tackle or two) and we come out uninjured.

There are 9 new players on the field for Holland, most important change is that Stekelenburg will be the goalkeeper. The 2 players that will be playing that started the other 2 games are Boulahrouz as rightback and Engelaar on midfield.

All the others did not start the other games, but Robben and van Persie are both playing, with Huntelaar in front of them, so there is still a lot of offensive power.

Hmm, Platini (A Frenchman) is at the Holland - Romania game and not the France - Italy game?

you know what's crazy? if two teams have the same coefficient (this is not the case) then it will be a draw (two balls in a bowl, somebody will shuffle them and the one that comes out passes to the next round)

Not entirely true. Before the draw, there's also the Fair Play score to account for.

Geez Romania would want to pull their finger out in the 2nd half. They were ordinary apart from one or two fleeting moments.

Romania will have to improve and start attacking now, it's all or nothing for them.

Dutch commentator mentioned something about a Romanian player not being at the tournament because he got suspended for 22 games after trying to strangle a linesman, anybody got a movie of that?
