yeah they should, screw the french and italians. there teams are too old, time to make way for holland and romania in the quarters. :cool:whether newbie or sock, who else thinks taking the time to correctly spell the name of one's own country in one's own username should be considered a prerequisite to being taken seriously?

But the Italians already believe the whole world has a conspiracy against them in every tournament, if Holland throw the game they'll never shut up.

And we should care about this because...?

The Dutch have earned the right to do as they damn well please, the French and Italians should have just made sure they didn't end up in this situation. If they go out, they only have themselves to blame. Are you telling me they'd not rest some of their starters if they were already sure of winning the group at this point?

I'd like to say that ComeOnEngalnd is no way affiliated with the country of England and his views and opinions are no way linked with that of the people of our great nation.

When its all said I don't think the Dutch are going to throw the games, but I don't think their motivation will be at the same level as it was for France and Italy.

The Dutch will "throw" this game as much as Portugal "threw" their game against the Swiss.

Even if we play our so called B-Team, look at the attackers we would field:

Van Persie - Afellay - Robben - Huntelaar

Looks tasty huh? :D

And the correct answer should have been:
"For the betterment of society, the Dutch should do anything to hasten the exit of the Italians."

Apparently Ruud Gullit feels van Basten should have thrown the match.

That was hilarious.

I don't understand what the Dutch would have gotten out of throwing the match? They would have lost all momentum and the Romanians surely would have been knocked out by Spain anyway. Personally, I wanted the Romanians to move on just because it would have been funny to see Italy and France out of it, but to throw the match? Never.

Lol. The trick to not worrying about matches being thrown or not is to hope your team plays half decent. :p

I doubt they would have lost momentum. Portugal lost their last game but I still expect them to beat Germany who won their last game. Yah, based on paper Spain would have beaten Romania but theres a reason why they play the game and if Romania would have pulled off the upset things would have been easier for them in the SFs. I imagine if Italy end sup beating the Dutch in the SFs people will really began to wonder if it was a smart move to "keep" the momentum.

You know, if both Italy and Holland advance to the semi's and play eachother again( which remains to be seen on both acounts ), I'd not look back at this question even if we would lose against Italy. If Italy would win against us in the semi's we simply should have played better and put more in the back of the net. Simple as that.

Then again, first things first & one step at a time : Quarterfinals.

The question is, would the Italians have beaten the Romanians had the shoe been on the other foot? I'm not so sure...

Me neither. But in three previous occasions, when Italy was already qualified for the quarters ( or the semi ) in previous comeptitions they played the match and won ( Vs. Argentina 78, Austria 98 and Sweden 2000 ). Obviously an idiotic rules which permits two teams from the same group to meet again in the semi has made this question relevant ( as it was not in the 3 matches cited ).

As a former player, I would have been very demoralized if the manager told us to deliberately lose a match.
