Germany had one good game and one half-decent game. This doesn't exactly put you in a position to gloat at others is all I'm saying. Just consider yourself lucky to be in the top half of the draw.

:D Actually we use to it. Since 1954 we play bad but win tournaments because we are lucky. I don't remember a single tournament in which people say we deserved to win it (even WC 1990).

As far as we add to our tophies, I don't care if it is our good play or what other people say. Luck has been our side over 54 years! So it is considered our strength.

That was the perfect answer to keep him quiet! ;)

Theres no gloating here, sweatheart. The semi-finals is a pretty acceptable spot when you look at this German team. And I agree with you, Against Austria and Croatia we had a very poor showing.
And yes. I'll take luck...and here's to hoping we have some more luck tonight!

Yes, we are fcuking lucky that we only had to play Portugal to go to the semis while you had to play the powerhouse Russia to get there.

By the way, for me, the Netherlands are the deserved European Champion...

of the group stage. :D

I'm actually glad you beat Portugal, they're a bunch of selfish overrated primadonnas. But come on, you're not seriously denying that the top half of the draw had it much easier than the bottom half. Russia are actually a genuinely good outfit. I'm pretty confident they'll beat Spain.

I know it's your strength, I'm not begrudging you your place in the semis or anything. I just don't think Germans are in a position to gloat, considering the tournament so far.

Especially not right now, they're getting pwned by Turkey at the moment.

But the job gets done in the end. Typical German fashion, not beautiful, but effective! :D

Back to "Group of Death" talk!!

I don't feel the type of hatred I used to feel for German football but I have to say that I find it highly frustrating that Germany are in the final. One good game all tournament, arguably only one world class opponent all tournament, yet you're in the final. Here's hoping for Tsar Guus.

Italy and France were not world class teams in this tourney so don't make it seem like like Holland had a rough time getting through. Romania could have easily been a stronger opponent than the other two.

Next, you meet Russia, your first "non world-class opponent" and you get ass raped sent home packing was ironically the only team with class enough that they kicked you out of the Euros in the same style you trampled over the Italians and French!!

See this makes me laugh. The very same people who predicted with the utmost certainty that Holland would finish last in the group before the tournament started, now say that Italy and France were crap. We easily beat the 'easily stronger opponent' Romania with a b-team by the way, so what's your point?

You can talk about this till the cows come home but fact remains that Germany got away with a slow start in the group. It's the Czech Republic beating you in the qualifiers which in no small part helped you to the final.

Point is; France and Italy did play like crap. Did I excpect this? No, of course not. I expected a much better performance from both these teams but frankly Portugal, Croatia, Russia and Turkey were much stronger teams in this tourney. Thats not Holland's fault - they just lucked-out that Donadoni and Domenechi were incompetent.

As far a a slow start for Germany...who cares where and how it started? It whatever the result, it ends in the final! :D

What I object to is the 'Holland won because France and Italy were crap' argument. That reeks of the same attitude to me as the Dutch newspapers display when Ajax lose, i.e. they always think that when Ajax lose, it's Ajax's weakness that's to blame, and the strength of the opponent had nothing to do with it.

Yes, I'm sure the Germans would've sailed through that group, I mean, judging on the way Germany sailed past the likes of Austria, one of the toughest sides in the whole tournament.
Amen to that! Of all fans, the Germans shouldn't be poking fun when it was already predetermined Germany would make the final.

Well, a certain Dutch fan shouldn't bring Germany up then when we come here to talk about group C, dont you think?

As far as predetermined...Im sure most will agree that Portugal is not really an easier opponent than Russia.

Nope they're not, and full credit to Germany for making the finals.

I often think that Germany does enough to barely beat bad teams, then goes full out against top teams. This is smart cause you conserve your energy that way, but it also makes it appear (falsely so) that you're barely scraping by some weaker countries.

Look at Holland, we totally blew all our energy in 2 matches, then we had nothing left for the quarters. How smart is that???
