in a way this could be better as the players from the first 11 will be less motivated and more careful not to get bookinks and injuries.

Here's who I would start against Romania, a 4-4-2 system:
-------------Stekelenburg (Timmer 2nd half)--------
Melchiot--------Heitinga------Bouma---------de Cler
Van Persie---------Afellay---------de Zeeuw--------Robben
-----Vennegoor of Hesselink----------Huntelaar---------

i think if we score first then the dutch won't attack with all their forces in order to equalize (although they could do it anyway, especially from a corner now that Goian isn't playing). if it's 0-0 in the second half and we expose ourselfs to attack in waves, then the dutch lethal counter could finish us.

I didn't get fullquote, so sorry,
I read the other day on the net, surfing, so I don't take it as the necessarily truth but I think it bears mention,
So, often, many of us have heard, East Germany defeated West Germany in 1974: but the other day, I read something that W. Germany stood to gain a "better" opponent if they "threw" that game. I'm just saying what this website was insinuating. I'd have to really read into this to see if this story has any believability.
How about this year in the NHL? Penguins lost their last game to the Flyers, making it so Pittsburgh played the Ottawa Senators who horribly faded in the second half of the season and if Pittsburgh had won that game versus Philadelphia (Flyers)? They would have played the Flyers right away in a series and the Flyers were probably flying rather high at that point in time, higher than later when the two did meet again.
But on the other hand, throwing games too, can backfire and one might end up getting someone who will seriously challenge.

Don't be so ignorant. The game is about improving your chances, because you don't get many. Either way, we'll see what happens Tuesday. At this point, Romania is only capable of scoring off of mistakes and gifts from fat ************ refs(although they botched that), whereas the Dutch have only conceded ONCE by falling asleep being up 2-0. It's pretty easy to tell if a team is trying to win or not.
Ah yes, the post wasn't your friend and Buffon wasn't forced into 2 great saves early in the 1st half. And Italy's only goal came from a mistake btw.
When you win your first trophy, then you can talk about being better than anyone. Right now, Romania is just another underdog.
You're ignorant to think it doesn't happen ToonUSA.
Paranoia doesn't exactly make others ignorant, it highlights yours.

Not true. It's easy to tell if a team is trying or not.
Apparently not that easy, given that you seem to think that Denmark - Sweden in 2004 was a fix. :D
Unless you didn't watch the game - but maybe you shouldn't comment on it then?

Buffon: "I fear another fix" Saturday 14 June, 2008
Gianluigi Buffon warns he “couldn’t stand another fix like four years ago” as suspicion surrounds Holland-Romania.
The Italian media is in fervour after discovering a Romanian victory in the final game would ensure their qualification, knocking out both 2006 World Cup Finalists.
“I trust in the sporting nature of the Dutch and hope Marco Van Basten remembers he is a good friend of Italy and Roberto Donadoni,” noted the goalkeeper.
“I couldn’t stand to go out with another fix like four years ago when Denmark and Sweden drew 2-2.”
The Azzurri went out of Euro 2004 after the two Scandinavian sides finished with the only scoreline that would guarantee progress for both sides.
Even if Italy beat France in the last Group C encounter, it could all be in vain if an already qualified Holland lose.
“After the match with Romania we went straight to the airport for our return to Vienna,” wrote Buffon in his blog.
“Having landed in the Austrian capital, we learned of the four goals Holland had put past France.
“Clearly that is not a positive result for us, because now Van Basten’s side are already assured first place even with a defeat to Romania. That means we could beat France 8-0 and it wouldn’t matter.
“So we hope all goes well. In these next four days we will prepare as best we can for the game with France.”
You're ignorant to think it doesn't happen ToonUSA.
Yes tournament fixing does happen but it works both ways, such as Italy's 1934 World cup fixed by Mussolini.
That disallowed goal against Romania was unfair on Italy, however italy has also had luck in the Euro for example winning the 1968 Euro semi final via a coin toss. So there are cases of good and bad luck.
It isnt just this game its how well Italy plays over 3 games, Italy played better against Romania than France did. All the Italian national team can do is try their best and they did that against Romania and will try against France.

I watched the game, and "coincidentally" they both scored the 2 goals they both needed to advance.

Beat romania, but only by 2 goals, I don't want Italy or France coming back with a vengeance in the finals or something.

Yep, 2 hated rivals conspired to knock out an unimposing Italy.

Maybe just try and get 1 first. That task seemed to elude you guys in the qualifiers...

Italy or France will advance if they win, and I'm reading in a few places that if they score draw and Romania lose they're also through.

That really makes zero sense. Obviously both France AND Italy can't advance. Only Holland and one other team will qualify.
See post #35 in this thread for the different permutations.
If Italy and France finish with score draw and Romania loses, Italy advances based on the following tiebreaker: goal scored in head-to-head matches (i.e. vs. France and Romania). That would be the craziest form of poetic justice for Italy--after being on the wrong end of a couple of harsh, but technically fair, applications of football rules (RVN's goal, Mutu's PK), to go through on a 2nd tiebreaker rule would be strange irony.
The only chance for France is to beat Italy, plus hope Romania ties or loses to Holland.

Edit: Italy will go through. I was speaking from the Italian perspective. Don't forget the goal annulled.

NONONONO please let's not say s**t.
The Sweden Denmark game was ridicoulous, and it was a conspiracy great like the empire state building and the colosseum together. People always blame us for calciopoli and for our corrupt, but what Sweden and Denmark did is the exapt kind of music that Moggi organized.
Look, this is a sweden newspaper of the day when sweden and denmark played
http://www.dynamick.it/mat/svedese.jpg
Look (if you read it) to the date... it was the 22 of june and they wrote 2-2... mmmmmmmmmh
Anyway if Holland and Romania will do the same thing I already know what I will say: "Other teams can kick us out of a tournament only in this way"
