Another interesting poll would be, who's shoes would you rather be in?

Romania with their destiny in their own hands against a hot team, or Italy or France.

I don't think Italy/France will end in a draw. France and Italy both did get some decent attacking against Holland when pushed to it but could not finish.

1990, I believe as the other score of Ireland's/Holland's group came in and those two were playing each other, I understand the two did let off on each other and got a tie knowing they'd both advance per Jack Charlton's diary as coach of Ireland that year.

A draw between Italy and France? That's a stupid way to end that match for both teams

But quite funny, as the 2nd team to progress in this scenario would be the team that had the smallest loss against us.

I really dunno what will happen. I don't believe that we will throw the game, and I am already looking forward to Italy-France.

if Italy-France ends as a draw then probably Romania will qualify (as long as we don't lose 3-0 to Holland) i think we won't lose at a high score. in fact i'm even hoping we'll win against a relaxed dutch team. but we'll have to wait until tuesday :( such a long wait. these days will feel like months...

IMO there's no way that Italy - France will end in a draw. That game literally means a fighting chance at entry into the quarterfinals.

Classless thread FNU.

To question the integrity of the Dutch and to think the Romanians need Holland to allow them to win is pathetic. Nobody cares about Italy enough to try and screw them. The teams will play and what happens in those 90 minutes will decided the fates. Not some pre-conceived paranoia from Italian fans that everyone is out to get them.

Like we've said before, French fans need the Dutch to get a result against Holland just as much as the Italian fans. However, there are far more Italian fans on this forum... hence the "whining" being so one-sided.

And if you think that Holland won't take its chances to eliminate both Italy and France in one fell swoop, your ignorance of the pedigrees of these two countries is astounding. They may not have played very well these past two games, but anyone who discounts either Italy or France does so at their own peril.

As far as no one caring enough to eliminate Italy... have you been hibernating for the last 8 years? The Dutch have been seething to get revenge against Italy for the semifinal of Euro 2000.

Look, no one can know what Holland will or won't do, but there's a very good chance that Holland will consciously apply less attacking pressure than they normally would in a game with significance. Romania may very well take the last game and qualify for the quarterfinals. It doesn't take away from a Romanian win, of course, because (after all) the Dutch couldn't beat you guys in qualifying either. That's pretty darn impressive against this Dutch team.

We're essentially on the same side --- we both think that Romania is a very good team, and we both think that Romania will win vs. Holland. What more could you want?

Not to be an ass but if there is a fanbase and set of players that people associate with whining it's the Italians. So let's not make this a numbers game when it's more of a stereotype thing ok?

They'd have to take their chances by beating Romania, a team they couldn't beat in the Euro qualifiers. You don't think that's motivation enough?

They already got their revenge...3-0 sound familiar?

The implications that Holland may take their foot off the pedal is dripping with the hint of a conspiracy theory. Romania has been the best defensive team of the group thus far,and they were also one of the top defenses in all of Europe during qualifying. Whoever thinks that Holland is just going to be able to power through Romania like they did with Italy and France needs to wake up. If they need a little help I'd be glad to send them tapes of the qualifiers where the Dutch were handcuffed.

A Holland win over Romania and a Italy-France draw of 1-1 or greater would send Italy through. A Italy-France 0-0 tie and Romania loss and Romania would advance.

So Italy can still go through with a draw of 1-1 or greater!
Hey that's awesome :D...

Even tough I think the dutch won't beat Romania :(

Not so much scandalous as incompetent, I have to say.

the referee made one mistake. a big one i must agree. but bad things happen. as i said on another thread if i start writing about moments in the last 8 years when we were disadvantaged i would fill 5 pages. i don't think the referee had intention in his mistake. it's like you said incompetence.

And if I had to write about moments in the last 8 years when Italy were disadvantaged, I could probably fill up an entire Gothic novel :p

Just kidding, I've truly gotten over it now.

I think, it is a bitter pill to swallow, where we have had a rather sporting tournament so far and in the first 20 minutes of the game, there is very much what appears like a dive in the Romanian penalty area by the Blue team (I use those words because I honestly don't care to sound negative against them), when such tactics are used, it opens up to all kinds of things and hurts every team out there and the sport in general. Plus, it may well encourage the team that that happened against, to say, maybe we can't take this honestly if such tactics are being employed against us. So, indeed, there were not cards given out for these episodes which could have been done and that would even up some a so-called bad offsides call.

My guess is that the referees decisions againt Italy even out quite nicely, remember Italy-Australia ? Sorry, had to mention that..

Don't be so ignorant. The game is about improving your chances, because you don't get many. Either way, we'll see what happens Tuesday. At this point, Romania is only capable of scoring off of mistakes and gifts from fat ************ refs(although they botched that), whereas the Dutch have only conceded ONCE by falling asleep being up 2-0. It's pretty easy to tell if a team is trying to win or not.

The Dutch have been sending a message and while I assume they will rest some of their stars, they will want to continue to send that message. I predict their second striong will also want to send a message. I think Holland plays to win and does so.

I hope so. I rather see a team like FRANCE who tries to score, rather than the defensive shell known as Romania move on.

we had 8 clear chances on goal. you said you prefere france because it's more offensive. if you saw romania-france you would have seen that the french were also very defensive. in the game with italy you guys were the ones forced to attack...why should we risk? italians have no right of accusing a team to be defensive. you guys almost always in your history played the defense - counter-attack tactic. why shouldn't romanians use it in such a situation?
i'm sorry but if we beat holland then we will prove we were the better team that deserved qualification and the italians and french will have to pack their bags :)
