A local referee gave a yellow card to a player that wore a wrestleing mask after he scored a goal (he was Ecuadorian), and orderd him to take it off.

Is there anything in the rules that backs up what the ref did?

I dont think that wearing a mask deserves any card :S, heck I want to seem him play in it for the full length of the match :D

Or simply for bringing the game into disrepute.

Suppose before the match, the player says that the facemask is 'protective'. Possibly protecting the player's face from the damaging effects of the sun. At that point, we have to follow our new directive:

• Focus on the equipment itself – not how it might be improperly used, or whether it actually protects the player.

Has a can of worms been opened????
