Spain-Russia
The Russian defense was laughable. Spain scored on a 2 v 6 (Villa's 2nd goal).

Either France-Romania or Sweden-Greece. Hahaha.
France and Romania were most disappointing to me, because they both have the players to make it entertaining but didn't.
You always knew what the Greeks were going to offer up. It was nice they won it as huge underdogs last time, but I hope they get eliminated ASAP because they are just unbearable to watch for 95% of the game.

 how the hell did that game slip my mind!
1st
Germany – Poland
For obvious reasons - I'm German! But this wasn't just any game. Perhaps considered a rematch for the 2006 game with Germany beating Poland 1-0 in 90'+. The Poles also made a huge deal out of this with media and a lot of hype. Having a great campaign beating the Portuguese and all the fire about wanting to finally beat Germany (this was there final) I was worried before the game. Germany won 2-0
2nd
Italy – Netherlands
Everyone I know had the Italians as winners. A team with great depth and great new talent; having only conceded 2 goals in 2006 they clear favs. Holland had a rocky qualification process and lost Seedorf and MVB weeks before the Euros began. A not so experienced defense made it seem like on form Luca Toni would have the final word. Holland won 3-2...a defeat Italy hasn’t tasted in years.
3rd
Spain – Russia
Though some sparks of drive, the Russians really did not handle this match well and were for the most part outplayed. the only thing that made this match entertaining were the 5 goals. That and watching Spain's talent entertain over a lackluster Russia – nothing more.
Honorable mention
Austria – Czechs
The last 20 minutes were great. Too bad Austria didn't tie this match.
Most boring
France – Romania & Greece – Sweden (at least there were a couple goals in there)

So I guess the game first slipped your mind, then when it returned all of a sudden the Italians scored 2 goals? :D

Austria - Croatia
Agreed. Haven't seen all of the games(stupid work), but this one stands out. The host Austrians dominating the heavy favorites only to come up short in their quest for an equalizer.

Austria - Croatia
God, now I am really embarrassed.
I am recording all the matches (I'm also at work and I don't want to use streams for the EUROs) but some just aren't worth watching after you read the reports so I end up fast forwarding them for like 70 of the 90 minutes - my wife thinks I'm nuts!

Weather for this Switzerland-Turkey match is insane. I'm looking for Fritz Walter and and Puskas out there!

TBH, I think these Euros came alive when Van Nistlrooy scored that goal vs. Italy. The tournaments first controversial moment, the first blow struck in the group of death, and the floodgates opened.. since then, all the games have been interesting. The exception maybe Sweden-Greece but even that had its moments - two contrasting goals. Todays games were excellent. I'd have to put Switzerland - Turkey and Portugal-Czech up there. Now that teams are fighting for thier lives, the games will really liven up from here on...

It usually picks up for the second match days. Some sides have already lost and can't afford to sit back anymore.
Heartbreaker for the Swiss, but you could kind of feel it coming on, couldn't you?

Someone made a reference to Puskas--one of the best scoreres ever. Why? Did the Hungarians of the old had a game similar to Turkey/Switzerland-- played under torrential rain, also? The Turks deserved it and this better line up with Arda and Gokdeniz will also overcome the Czechs. Should be a great game and hopefully under better skies. No pk's--no prisoners taken. Boy, that was a lot of blood out there today!:(

There was some pretty heavy rainfall leading up to the 1954 World Cup Final between Germany and Hungary. The Puskas-led Hungary side was heavily favored and had thumped all comers, including Germany earlier in the tournament. Germany's coach said that if it rained, Germany would win because that was the favorite weather of Germany's captain, Fritz Walter. It did rain and the technical superiority of the Hungarians was canceled out by the boggy pitch, helping the Germans win in a huge upset. Anyways, I thought the first half was kind of like that, only the Swiss were playing the role of the Germans and the Turks that of the Hungarians. Too bad for the Swiss that it quit raining and the field drained so much during halftime!

You forgot to mention the Adidas boots by the German NT with studs that helped them hold their footing better...

My vote goes for Croatia-Austria because the score was closer. One team dominated the other in most game. The Holand-Italy was great, but it was went 2-nil. The same can be said about the Spain-Russia.
My expectation is getting higher. The exciting team so far seemed to be doing well. I am looking forward for an interesting 2nd round.
