Seriously, i don't think France was so bad...the dutch were very realistic, of course they are better than us, but i think 4-1 is a very cruel result.
I hope the players of the Dutch "B" Team will want to show to Van Basten they can play in "A" team and they will beat Romania.
If Nederland beat Romania, and if France beat Italy...everything is possible.
But Domenech must fire Coupet, Sagnol, Malouda, Anelka and Thuram !!

Holy crap, the Dutch are amazing
7 goals for, 1 goal against versus the winners and runners up from the last World Cup.
Phenomenal!
Team of the tournament so far, no question.

Van Basten already said on dutch tv that some players will get rest against Romania, but that they aren't going to just let Romania win to let France and Italy go home. They want to win every game, not take it slowly against anybody.

of course that's the atitude of a great team. but we will do our best, and even if their reserves are very good they are not too well integrated in the team chemestry. this will be their only weakness.

That is what he is supposed to say. He can not come out and say that he will rest his stars and tell the squad to take it easy out there and not do anything that'll get them a suspended or injured.

I just registered to thank Redmad for his contributions to these forums. Keep up the good work for us man :)
The Netherlands, unreal .. that's all I can say. Finally they are dismantling teams like they should. I hope they keep it up.

Very interesting game... The Dutch have performed better than probably anyone would have expected... And they have done this with what I believe is still an average backline at best... Babel's injury is starting to turn into a blessing in disguise... Bouhlarouz took his roster spot and has been clutch imo... They are probably the most technically and tactically complete team at the Euros imo... They just don't knock it around, they know exactly what to do with it... The French coach needs to be fired... What was he thinking??? First with his call-ups, then with his line-up selections, and finally his substitutions... I think maybe Diarra should've played instead of Toulalan... He's shown the ability to link up the midfield to the attack which was sorely needed... Gomis??? He scored 2 goals in a friendly and he gets a call-up??? Okay I can live with it, but how do you bring on Gomis instead of Benzema/Anelka??? I don't know, I think it's the end of an era and you gotta start looking to the future... Sagnol and Thuram to me are definitely not up to par... Robben's fast I will say that, but I think he should not have ghosted by Sagnol to score the 3rd goal so easily... Thuram has loads of experience, but his physical ability is dwindling severely... Question, how does the complexion of this game change if Henry scores the 1 v. 1 he had with the keeper???

As an Italy supporter, I'd like to say that Van Basten can do whatever the hell he wants short of telling the team to let Romania win.
They've put themselves in this position, they can manage their team to their best advantage as long as they're not throwing the match. If avoiding cards, avoiding injury and trying not to lose are top priorities -- rather than winning at all costs -- that is their prerogative.

That's not true, the team chemistry they have right now is not limited to the 11 men on the field, it's all 23 players, the coach, his assistant and the rest of their staff. Van Basten has allowed the players to chose how they want to play this tournament and they together chose this 4231 system and you can tell they are ready to every one of their teammates a shot at success.

I'd call it "frightening". ;)
7 (!) goals out of 2 games against the World Champ & Vice World Champ is simply shocking  ... especially after the modest scoring rate from the qualifiers.
Kudos on another impressive performance and congrats on qualifying for the 1/4 final!
France didn't play as badly as the result sounds (the same with Italy when they lost 0:3) ... and who knows how the game would have ended if Henry converted that 100 % chance a few minutes before the 2:0.
The main difference between both teams was the efficiency in attack resp. the quality of the strikers! The only French player who looked dangerous and determined, was Frank Ribery. But a "world class - Ribery" simply isn't enough against guys like van Nistelrooy, Robben, van Persie, Sneijder, Kuyt and van der Vaart...
PS: Did you see that incredible trick from van Nistelrooy before the 2:0?

NED - FRA 4:1 (all goals)
Soccer: Netherlands thrash France 4-1
Substitute Arjen Robben set up one goal and scored another to lead the Netherlands to a 4-1 victory over France and a place in the quarterfinals of the European Championship. While the Dutch clinched first place in Group C, the result left France needing a win over World Cup champion Italy in its last match to stand a chance of advancement.
With a second classic performance in as many games, the Dutch again produced the sparkle any championship craves, compiling a total of seven goals against World Cup finalists Italy and France. Les Bleus had not conceded that many goals since 1982. The Netherlands beat Italy 3-0 Monday.
"We have had two fantastic wins with this team," coach Marco van Basten said.

as i said the reserves are excellent but if a team neve played togheter in matches, than their passes will not be so precise. anyway we will see tuesday. again romania will be severely underestimated as in the games against france and italy. maybe with some luck we can win this one. at least i hope so. :)

Unless Piţurcă decides for a 0-0 game plan. He needs to start Dica and get rid of Defensive midfielders as we have a solid midfield if he uses it widely.

the Dutch must now be considered the favorite to win it all...
Of course they will be the top fav, hence!
Btw: Superb goals from Robben & Sneijder.

he will start with Dica, because ovidiu petre is injured from the start and now radoi is injured. his only choice will be dica for an offensive play. i don't think he will play for a 0-0 draw. that would be stupid, a france or italy victory would send us home.

I believe it was Kuyt who explained it the best on dutch tv. He said that the French are not a team, the danger from the French comes from individual players like Henry and Ribery, that is what they were prepared for and even though a few times it was pretty shaky the defense overall was pretty solid especially with Boula stopping some dangerous attacks.

They train together and do not forget that the lineup against Italy last Monday was the first game with that lineup.

I agree, but it was silly today as well as we are in quite a pickle.
