just got back from watching the game at a beer. i think the 1-1 draw is a fair result. toni's goal in the first half was not offside. but then again romania had a shot on post and a penalty. so i think 1-1 is the corect result. if holland beats france, then romania will have the biggest change to take second place. we will see tuesday...

Hypothetical. Dutch beat Romania and France. France and Italy draw.
Romania, France, and Italy all finish 0-2-1 at 2 points.
Italy and France end 0-0
Goal difference in entire group
Italy and France end 1-1 (or 2-2, 3-3, 4-4, ect)
Italy advance on goals scored in games involving ITA, FRA, ROU
I would be willing to bet on the fact that the Italy-France match will NOT end up in a draw. This will be a all or nothing type of attitude for this game.IMO Italy will beat them sensless.
Now, if Mutu would conjure himself for the Holland game, and stop feeling sorry for himself , we have a chance.
If we do not qualify , we can look back at his missed penalty as a turning point.

If we do not qualify , we can look back at his missed penalty as a turning point. It should've been 2-2 with that PK. We should look to the fact that Piţurcă is playing this defensive in games that we could be winning by a minimum of two goals.

anyway besides the game which was a fair 1-1, i must point out we had wonderful supporters. i think i heard the italians only twice in 90 minutes. superb is the word that describes our fans!

I too am surprised that we outsung both the Italians and the French. Although both anthems were great today.
1-1 was fair to Romania, yes. lol To Italy, not so much.

why not? according to stats both teams had 8 clear chances on goal. italy had a corect goal that was unfairly called as offside. romania had a missed penalty. it sems a fair game to me. equal in every way. except for the supporters. romanians were clearly superior even if their number was smaller.

One thing is in your control, the other isn't. Is that even or fair? No.
Equal game? LOL I take you didn't look at all the stats from the game huh?

yes i had looked at the stats and the fact you dominated the game doesn't mean anything. after all in it's football history italy's main tactic was defense and counterattack. 8 changes Romania. 8 changes Italy. that seems pretty fair to me. yes the referee did a mistake. if i start counting how many times romania was disadvantaged in the last 8 years (especially in 2003) i would fill 5 forum pages. sometimes bad things happen. it's inevitable.

The problem with both Italy and Romania here is that neither capitalize on their chances. Italy had tons of them, but couldn't score (unlucky offside call though). Still, Italy should have bagged 3-4 in had Toni or Del Piero took their chances. Romania had very few chances, but those chances were very good, and they should have capitalized on them. When you play against a more talented or stronger team (no doubt Italy was stronger in this match), you need to score when you have a rare chance to do so. Romania couldn't do that either.

Those chances were the ones I mentioned. Those are the chances that Romania should have scored on.

Italy have been more impressive than france so based on that you'd back them to win...but...france are very experienced as a squad and could click into gear and even it up...
Italy have never done well in consecutive tournaments have they?

We had been punished in the first match for some kind of obscure rule that noone knows, and then when we score absolutely square and fair we were disallowed.
That's the level of referee today.
For me, our EC had finished yesterday, because if we can't beat Romania, well, better go out early.

Some obscure rule? Are you referring to the offsides rules? That was just shoddy defending. The defenders should have never given up on that play.
