Am I the only one that think thats ridiculous???

None of them is really loyal to the country they are playing for. As soon as they retire from professional football they will return to Brazil. Deco spends more time in Brazil than Portugal...

Portugal has Pepe and Deco
Spain has Marcos Senna
Turkey also has Mehmet Aurélio. Well, at least I guess this one converted to Islam.
Poland has Roger Guerreiro.
Germany has Kuranyi. But this one is the least brazilian of all. I think he just was born in Brazil to a foreign family or something like that.

There are many mercenaries in world football who play international football for other countries thanks to generous FIFA rules.
It became even worse when under 21 internationals were no longer cap tied.

I also believe that FIFA has to put an end to this naturalizations, i was against Deco and Pepe in our NT, even despite the logical ties and the fact they came to Portugal with 18 and came from the 3 or 4th divisions of Brazilian football.

In our case something has to be done since we have literally hundreds of brazilians playing in the professional and semi pro leagues, i would say that 90 % of the foreigners in Portugal are Brazilians, so if we wanted we could solve our attacking and left back positions easily but fortunatly things don´t work this way, they need 6 years to become citizens...

About the mentioned players not being loyal to their adopted NT´s, about Deco i believe he wanted to play for the Brazilian NT and if he had waited he would certainly play and have an important role.

About Pepe, there is no doubt that if he wanted he would play with Brazil, he was capped playing in Real Madrid... when we sold him he said that despite going to Spain his NT was Portugal and if he was called he would consider it an honour because Portugal allow him to reach were he was.

Again, despite not liking that much this naturalizations one thing his Portugal to naturalize a player from Brazil, Cape Verde or Angola and another thing is Spain naturalizing a Brazilian only in 4 years or the Polish, Turkish etc doing the same...

Deco did wait and was not called up in time, so he decided (rightfully, in my eyes) to play for Portugal.

he do not have competence to be brazilian? haha.

if you don't have hability to play for your country i don't think is right play for other.

if he feel as a brazilian, there only 1 national team that he would play.

I feel it's kind of a cheap thing to do. I see it being very weird to represent a set of colors different to your country's.

Didn't FIFA say they have to be full citizens? We know how countries bend their citizenship rules in the case of footballers, but given that these players are full citizens, they do represent the colors of their (new/adopted) country.

I'm not good enough to play for England, maybe I should go and trial for American Samoa.

Portugal has the most Brazilians starting AND a Brazilian coach- they'll probably win Euro 2008.

Go ahead nobody will stop you.

I am completely in favore of letting players play for whatever team they want. I actually have suggested a rule before which allows any player to play for any national team at any time.

But then people tore the idea apart and I realized how stupid it was. Things are fine now.
