Croatia were pathetic IMO.
Wow. Such arrogance. If Croatia were pathetic, and Germany can't beat a pathetic team like Croatia, what is Germany then?
I think your philosophy is that in this tournment, 15 teams suck ass and only Germany is good. Only Germany play "attractive football." Even when Holland won convincingly by 3 goals, they were not attacking enough. How many goals does a team need to get to play attractive football? 5? 10? (How is that Germany only score 2 goals against POLAND then?)

I disagree on all accounts
It was a shocking post, wasn't it?

Squidward,
I have to disagree with your view of the match. Actually we were very lucky to get away with this narrow defeat.
But as I have said before, I don`t mind much about the results in the group stage. And I would also prefer to meet Portugal as the underdog. The tournament changes once it reaches the K.O. stages...
And may I say that I belonged to those who criticized Loew for his conservative squad selection.
Anyways, the problem were not our strikers but the complete lack of support from our midfield. No one not even Ballack deserves any sort of praise.
But maybe that game will bring a better spirit to our team. And I am glad that no one will call us favorites anymore.

well Portugal sure looks united to me, they are playing as a team and they celebrate goals all together with the subs, coaches, you can tell they have a special team unity.
dont confuse Talent for lack of team unity, its just their our individual players are that good and can decide games themselves.
There's no beating you ;)

I don't care who portugal's plays next...to be the best you have to beat the best. period. So if its germany bring it on! let it be a classic match!

I agree the midfield was poor; Ballack and on some level, Frings – though I think he did what he could without the captains’ support…but the strikers – Gomez and Klose had the ball several time at their feet and nothing happened! Neither looked like a cold top class finisher.
Truth is, for those knocking Croatia, it could have easily been 4-1 for them had they not missed a couple sitters themselves!

I said croatia were pathetic as I expected better from a usually good footballing side.
I expected them to outplay germany and win, if they were to win.
Read my post better next time.
EDIT:
If you read my holland posts properly, I said that holland did not play "attractive attacking passing football". I never said they weren't "attacking". Nobody dutch had any problem with what I said.

Squidward,
I have to disagree with your view of the match. Actually we were very lucky to get away with this narrow defeat.
How? Croatia did not create any chances after the half-chance and good chance that krancjar had midway through the first half. So how are they supposed to score more?
But as I have said before, I don`t mind much about the results in the group stage. And I would also prefer to meet Portugal as the underdog. The tournament changes once it reaches the K.O. stages...
Same here.
And may I say that I belonged to those who criticized Loew for his conservative squad selection.
squad selection is fine. they just did not play well enough on the day.
Anyways, the problem were not our strikers but the complete lack of support from our midfield. No one not even Ballack deserves any sort of praise.
agree. midfield attacking passing was poor with the final ball. Otherwise was good enough to dominate possession (Albeit in the face of very defensive play from croatia)
But maybe that game will bring a better spirit to our team. And I am glad that no one will call us favorites anymore.
Same. Better spirit thing I mean. No room for any complacency now. They're cornered.

Our boys are back! :D
I was getting a bit nervous after Kranjcar missed two golden chances, but Olic's goal sealed it. When Schweinsteiger came in, he started creating problems on the left wing.
Another solid performance by Srna, the most consisent performer for Croatia so far. Another solid performance by the backline.
An exciting game to watch.

Croatia were pathetic IMO. I did not expect that from a normally good footballing side. They did not try to play football after the first goal.
Funny. "Pathetic" was good enough to beat Germany.
But it was after halftime that they really shut up shop and played pathetic football.
We watched different matches then. I thought Germany stepped up their game and put Croatia on their back foot.
Plus, when you are winning 1-0, you can afford to let your opponents come at you and wait for counter-attack opportunities.
The next time Germany does it, I want you to write that they "stopped playing." Why should they try to attack all out and open themselves up the counter??
When you do that, you do not "deserve" to score again. A proper counterattack would have been bearable, but that goal was a huge slice of luck.
Yes, it was, but so was that bounce right to Podolski for the open shot.
So they score, and keep shutting up shop, while Germany play nice passing patterns at times, overall dominating possession but lack the incisive touch.
Ballack was poor offensively today. Klose was poor, Gomez was poor, Jansen was defensively a liability.
What really confirmed Croatia's desperation and pathetic football was when they tried to take it to the corner flag at the 85 minute mark!
After that the slow trudging to every corner and throw in and the great acting by the defender to pretend pig hit him in the face when he pushed him in the chest...
Croatia did not really play football and won.
Sure, Germany were not impressive enough with the final pass, but at least Germany tried to play football and didn't act and display something bordering on poor sportsmanship.
This is hilarious! You are being an absolute crybaby here! Were you in tears when you typed this??
You write like my daughter would yell when I teased her favorite boy bands. Disgusting.
Germany lost. They were challenged every step of the way and didn't know how to handle it.
And it seems you never thought they'd lose because you're whining worse than any German I know!
Three of whom are sitting here with me laughing at your Pig comments.
What a bunch of bullshit.
They showed a stat 3/4 of the way through the game and Germany had completed more than 100 more passes than Croatia.
They could complete 500 passes more than Croatia, but when Croatia has two goals and Germany has one, Germany still loses.
I think Germany will go through still.
Of course they will. Austria can't score.
It was good to get this match where you get a huge dose of bad luck and don't play as well as you can either.
That huge dose of "bad luck' was named Croatia! What a crybaby! You can't be man enough to give credit where it is due??
This will also get rid of ANY complacency they might have had. That's really good news.
What's better news is that it will get rid of the complacency and arrogance of the Germany fans!
Now they're cornered. If they can't do it now, then they're just not good enough.
Did you figure that one out all by yourself??
If Croatia meet us again in the semis, they better watch out ;)
Germany has to get to the semis first.
Again, congratulations to the croatian posters in here like aloisius, cromagnum and others
But not to the team they are celebrating? I'm very disappointed with this post. I expected more maturity from you.

calm down, they missed one "sitter" when lehmann saved. the other was only a half chance to kranjcar.
Petric-modric at the end was a half-chance and petric was offside.

Funny. "Pathetic" was good enough to beat Germany....
As much as I sympathise with your comments I'd appreciate it if you did it in a way that didn't come across as personally attacking squid. He's provided more than enough ammo to not have to get personal :D

I'm disappointed you didn't read it carefully enough.
I said I expected better from croatia as they are normally a good footballing side. I expected them to outplay germany if they had won...I did not expect this from them.
That's a compliment!

No, I did not think Germany stepped anything up to any big extent. They were good, but not overwhelming at all.
The thing is that I felt that Croatia did not try to counterattack. Yes you can defend and counter...but they just defended and did not counter.
Of course I don't expect them to go anywhere near all-out with a 1 goal lead.
Yes, it was, but so was that bounce right to Podolski for the open shot.
you are taking it out of context...yes podolski got a bounce but it was a constructed attack before that after continously trying (albeit not that effectively) to attack.
croatia got the bounce after a cross deflected and hit the post after defending before that for the whole half.
This is hilarious! You are being an absolute crybaby here! Were you in tears when you typed this??
You write like my daughter would yell when I teased her favorite boy bands. Disgusting.

What a bunch of bullshit.
I'm disappointed you assumed all that. I'm just talking the straight facts.
I didn't say croatia did not deserve to win given what they did, or that Germany would not win (FFS footy, check my pre-match predictions and comments on croatia in this thread). So you're assuming all that.
That huge dose of "bad luck' was named Croatia! What a crybaby! You can't be man enough to give credit where it is due??
the huge dose of bad luck = just the 2nd goal. Nothing else
Germany has to get to the semis first.
That's why I said "IF".
What's happened to you today? You are normally very careful with your reading and particular about what meaning what you write and writing what you mean.
But not to the team they are celebrating?
Um, I thought that congratulating the fans is like congratulating the team.
I mean they're both linked. Congratulating the fans is congratulating the team...

How? Croatia did not create any chances after the half-chance and good chance that krancjar had midway through the first half. So how are they supposed to score more?
They had at least 2 clear-cut chances that didn't go in during the first-half and at least one more in the second-half (where the German almost put it in his own net after the Croat just missed a tap in).
agree. midfield attacking passing was poor with the final ball. Otherwise was good enough to dominate possession (Albeit in the face of very defensive play from croatia)
56% of (useless) possession is nothing to hang your hat on and certainly doesn't signify any sort of "domination".
Croatia's first goal wrapped-up a sequence of about 20 complete passes in-a-row. They had more shots on target than Germany. More shots off target. Corner-kicks were even. Fouls committed were even. Not a hint of time-wasting by Croatia until the corner-kick right before the red-card.
You obviously watched a different match (and/or are completely ploughed at the moment).

Yes, granted. On the other hand their support was terrible. Talking about set-pieces...an absolute disgrace and a problem that is evident for months (at least a year).
But maybe things change next time. Gomez will sing the anthem.

And if you mean Croatia here Cris, what I said about him goes for you too.!
What?? I'm talking about Squid's post. you should know me better than that and read my comments on what I thought about the Croatians and their game. As I recall; They were "on the money".
By the way...how did you do that??
