Isn't that what this thread is about?

Exactly. Who's to say that France won't turn it on against the Dutch?

France (with Zidane) were just as poor in the group stages at the last World Cup.

I know, but no-one looks like stepping into his shoes do they?

My post was made before todays match, I'd seen Benz before in the CL and he's
a top player. He was piss poor today, definitely in the loser section.
Yet you didn't mention him there... ;)

I know you posted it before the match. Just goes to show though that you can't judge a player from one game, especially not in their first big tournament. Gomez didn't exactly have a great game, but still managed to look better than Benzema, who you thought played in a different class, after seeing Gomez in just one game.

Zidane didn't look like stepping into his own shoes 2 years ago in the group games.

I don't have to mention everybody you know

Silly of you to bring it up then

I'll rate Gomez as highly as Benzama, when I've seen him play as well as I've seen Benz.

Gomez can win me over but currently my opinion is 'meh'.

But he did. If Ribery, Benzema or Nasri step it up then my opinion changes.

I just thought it was a bit strange to first make out Gomez as the big loser and say he wasn't the same class as Benzema, but then not to mention Benzema, when he was actually worse. I mean, obviously to anyone who hasn't actually seen Benzema play before and who'd just heard about him (and read your assessment of Gomez), he'd look like the much bigger loser.

Silly of you to bring it up then

I should probably have quoted your post on the winners/losers in the Romania-France game as well, but I thought it was clear enough what the issue was...

Well I didn't list Gomez as a loser either:confused:

No need to get all worked up about it. Someone else listed him as a loser and you then said he wasn't the same class as Benzema.
I was just pointing it out, because I felt there was a contradiction there, when you didn't list Benzema as one of the losers of that game.
But really, it's all good...

I'm sorry, it just seemed to me like you overreacted a little when I said I disagreed with some of your views. What with all the :confused:s and "Silly of you to bring it up then"'s. ;)

Well, to bring this thread back to where it started, we have the tournament's big winner so far: Wesley Sneijder of Holland. His first half was the best of the Euros, and the goal was as good as it gets, from von Bronkhorst's counter to the shot itself.

I listed Gomez as a a loser, but he isn't really. It only meant he failed to live up for one game. he can come back for the next match.

Okay. Last night, I see the following:

Winners:
Romania
Van de Sar(Italy was bad, but he was sensational)
Cassano(Given his rep, he actually did well for Italy)
Orlando Engelaar(never heard of him b4 last night)
Van Basten(I thought he can't coach, but the team last night was well-coached)
Sneijder

Losers:
Benzema(not a good debut)
Gomis(why is he in A/S whenTrez is somehwere else? Actually, Gomis wasn't in A/S too)
Materazzi
Di Natale
Donadoni(completely outcoached)
Toni

Losers:
It got to be Hiddenk. What coach would make an in and out sub withing 30 mins? Add Vladimir Bystrov to the list....

Even though he only played 10 minutes, I was extremely impressed with Ibrahim Afellay.
