I'm not sure what the scoop on Holmes is. Seems young enough that he wasn't ready for the prem. But with Derby going back down why didn't they want to hold on to him?

Also picked up Chris Perry.

Southampton have snapped up former Derby midfielder Lee Holmes on a Bosman free transfer, and he will be joined at St Mary's by Chris Perry.

Southampton have made their second signing of the day in the shape of former Luton defender Chris Perry. The 35-year-old has arrived on a free transfer and it is his second spell at St Mary’s, having previously been on loan last season playing in the last six games and steering The Saints to safety.

Jan Poortvliet is certain he will become Saints head coach before the new season's fixtures are released a week on Monday.

Appointed head coach before he had negotiated the termination of his contract with Dutch club Helmond Sport, Poortvliet and the club have had to endure some embarrassing headlines in the past few days.

The versatile 30-year-old joined Argyle as a trainee in 1994 and has gone on to make 438 appearances for the club, scoring 63 goals.

Wotton started out as a central defender but has operated as a holding midfielder in recent years, helping Argyle remain in the Championship since promotion in 2004.

The former Plymouth skipper was released at the end of last season, though, allowing him to become Saints' third summer signing after veteran defender Chris Perry and former Derby midfielder Lee Holmes.

Sad to see Claus having to move on. :(

Claus Lundekvam struggled to hold back the tears as he said an emotional farewell to the Saints fans last night.
The retiring skipper was thrilled with the reception he received from the 18,664 crowd after his testimonial against Celtic.

Saints lost 2-0 but Lundekvam managed to play the last eight minutes despite the pain of the ankle injury which forced him to hang up his boots prematurely.
Afterwards he admitted he was mentally, physically and emotionally drained but relieved it was all over.

Saints seem to be having a decent pre-season with Jan finally around working.

Also looks like Celtic might be interested in Nathan Dyer

Looks like Davies is off now as well. A pity as he was developing into a good player.

Our finances are obviously a lot worse after relegation than anybody thought they would be.

3 in a row, hope our Saints keep marching!

Looks like the new boss has the team playing together, keeping my fingers crossed.

There's still a lot of game to play but amazing isn't it? Essentially the same group of players and things look to finally turning around. Gotta wonder how things would've went had Wotte been in charge for hte start. Or if some vets like Saga were around the whole time.

There is a match thread for the Backpool vs Southampton game over on the Blackpool FC BS forum, where there should be a full PBP. I'll be at the match, but anyone is welcome to pop in and follow the PBP.

Will 50 points be enough to avoid the drop?

So far it looks like the sale of the club hasn't been finalized yet. Although Dyer has been sold.

Swansea City have announced the signing of Nathan Dyer from Southampton for £400,000 on a three-year deal.

No I'm sure our home kit runs through this season, but I could be wrong. And Gordon Strachan has been seen around town, so who knows maybe he'll come back! that would be brilliant! although the Daily Echo are saying don't bet on it, they say that there is a shortlist of managers they have in mind and he's not on it. But I'd love to have Kevin Keegan back! COYR!!!

bit of a downer today Brighton 3 Saints 1, but you can't win them all can you. here's to hoping we can bounce back quickly and get back on track!
Antonio had many shining moments throughout the game, hopefully we get him signed in January

I was expecting Brighton to have some fight with their new manager, Poyet, having his first game in charge but I wasn't expecting what happened today. Always hate to drop points but with how the team's been playing overall, this should just be a rare 3 points dropped.

Could be a good move with Murty's injury possibly careeer ending.

http://www.twtd.co.uk/news.php?storyid=15580

Forgotten man Ben Thatcher is being targeted by Southampton, according to one of this morning’s newspapers. Veteran defender Thatcher is yet to play a game under Roy Keane’s management, having suffered a knee ligament injury in the 3-2 derby victory over Norwich at the end of last season.

Hmm Prk166, he's a bit of a nutter & loses it too easily on the pitch, good defender granted, but do we need another Mark Dennis in defence?? Saying that though I used to worship him in the 80's, seeing him bomb up the left wing with more skill than Ronaldo, only to lose the ball in a challenge then chase after whoever dared tackle him & virtually decapitate him, ah halcyon days
