I figured that for those of you who havent heard or seen much about the former Porto rightback could get to see a little bit of him in this thread. As a general description hes a bit like a right sided Evra. As a review, are you happy about this purchase?

Heres a 3 minute or so compliation of his runs/defensive plays and stuff:

Heres a few examples of his crossing ability:

Hey man thanks for the info.

I'm very happy with this signing because its very anti buisness as ususal for us. We opted for the less expensive option because our scouts determined that the extra money we would spend on alves would not make up the difference in quality between him and boz.

Yet he was still expensive. It's lose/lose.

I totally disagree. Buying players who can actually perform at our level is going to cost a little. Unless we buy a youngster and are willing to wait for him to develop, we are going to have to spend a little to get a immediate contibutor of Chelsea quality. I'm very happy with this deal, although the proce that Barca apparently got Alves for is a little lower than I expected.

He is starting for Portugal right now so if you get a chance to watch here is a good chance to see him in action.

His performance (Highlight to reveal): He was great and didn't get beat once. I was very impressed and I hope he can reproduce this form for us next season.

The lad had a very, very, solid game today.

I was impressed. The man went forward quite a bit. Didn't get beat at all but let's see what happens from here on out.

Also, I'm amused that when you add in Alex we have a 3/4 backline speaking Portuguese.

Unfortunately I was only able to watch the first 15 minutes so I have no in depth analysis other than he is very fast and overlaps a lot. I am looking forward to seeing him throughout the tournament.

And if, by chance, JT, Bridge, and Cole were to be hurt all at once, we'd have four for four with Paulo--Alex--Riccy--Bos.

Paulo Ferriera sucks though..well he did at leftback anyways..Kazim Kazim was made to look like Ronaldinho at times!

Every since his injury Ferriera hasnt been the same...he had a few decent performances as leftback for Chelsea prior to it as well.

Dude looked the balls, athletic, strong, inventive and technical.

From now on, only for Portugal.

Would like to see him keep it a bit more simple in the attacking third, get to the byline with that pace and get more crosses in. Then again, I wouldn't be thrilled crossing to Nuno Gomes either;)

Ya, I think crossing to Drogba would be a little better for him.....

Shit, nevermind

Bosingwa really looked the business yesterday. Ballack really looked the business today, although he was played in a conservative position. What does it mean for Chelsea?

Bosingwa---Carv---Terry---Bridge
----------Essien-----------------
--------------Ballack------------
--------------------Lampard-----
Joey---------Striker-----Kalou

Looked a bit like Ashley Cole, for mostly good and bad, but better defensivly yesterday. Definatly was outstanding defensivly, very quick and fast. He also looked to be a bit crossing and attacking pass challenged like Cole. We really need to get some wide fast crossers of the ball at wing if we are going to play tuck in fullbacks on both sides

damn it lobo I was honestly about to post that openly line that Bosingwa reminded me of a taller Ashely Cole. Plenty of pace, but probably not the strongest tackler on the team. Cant believe you just posted that, spot on.

As for the rest- Cech made some nice saves and looked a little nervous in dealing with this new ball (load of bollox if you ask me). Carvs had a tidy game for Portugal, Ferreria looked very dodgy being played out of position, and Ballack had a nice game for Ze Germans but was not a headline maker by any means.

Someone please tell me how the feck Croatia beat England not once but twice.... oh wait, I forgot about McSven. (question answered). Modric did very little to show his worth today.

Gomez struggled, but its obvious the lad has talent to go along with size and pace. If Drogs does go then I think signing this guy has to be a priority as I believe he could hold up play and link up with the midfield well. He was also banging in goals in the Bundesliga which is no easy feat either.

Would be very pleased with Ribery as we would finally have a player with "vision".

pretty much agree on the rest of your post, not entirely convinced by Gomez but have seen far too little of him, I hear Podolski is rarely as good for club as country but everytime I see him he is quality. Moutinho was less then convincing as well.
