Anyway, moving on. With Galliani coming out and linking himself with half the top striking talent in the world (and Eto'o) I was musing - are there any limits on what club officials can say? Or can they say anything they want provided they don't have dinners with a player before they sign (I'm looking at you Cashley)?
I'd love to see tapping up stamped out.

tapping up players will never stop. That's just the reality of this sport.

agreed but its been happening for ages and why should we suddenly be punished for following suit for ages.
as Andy pointed out in a previous thread, it was no secret that certian clubs had, and still have, a certian relationship with various outlets in the media and a player is suddenly unsettled, various dressing room unrest develops, etc.
Although it sickens me, especially from the Spanish and Italian contingent as they are blatant about it, I dont think it will ever be stopped mate.
The #1 problem is that the Governing bodies have no backbone. If clubs can bribe refs, fans can stab each other and officials, and blatant max fixing can occur with little to no punishment then how can they inforce a rule punsihing tapping up.

But it's getting more blatant every year - I'd just like to see it made more difficult.
I appreciate that it will never go away, much like trying to con the ref out of a penalty will always happen.

agreed. Perhaps one day the associations will show some spine. Of course that will involve getting people who are honest and actually played football in charge
so Platini is ruled out immediately.

of course he does. He is so busy throwing hatred towards the English teams that he is missing the fact that he is completely undermining his own authority. Such a twat.
Zippy,
If you are ever bored one day list the major offences/incidents/scandals in football in Europe in the last 10 years, one day and compare them country to country. I would wager you that the Premiership doesnt land in the top 3.

You're preaching to the choir, racists like Platini should not be head of European football, it makes me sad how unprofessional football is, no wonder you americans laugh at it.:(

However, it's hard to fault him when he says the yanks are in it for reasons other than love of the game.

Indeed. One thing about Roman is that he is a football fan, grew up watching and supporting football, I don't think you can say that about some other premiership football owners can you?

Just because it's not reported in this country, doesn't mean things like that do not happen here.

you pegged me Clan. Hot damn, kiss my grits, go USA!
I think the only exception to the rule so far has been Lerner at Villa. Of course they have yet to win anything and as soon as that happens, they will face the same shyte as every other foriegn owner

I have always found it interesting that whenever RA is at a football match the cameras always focus on him and make a big deal out of it and try to put some type of spin on his attendance at games. Of course this is fueled by the fact that he does not work with the media on their terms, which drives them nuts. Just a quick example, when England were playing Russia in the Euro qualifer, I believe the camera cut away to RA on at least 4 occasions and everytime they said "The Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich...".
I myself couldnt figure out who he was and secondly had no idea why he would be at a Russia vs England game.
