Beckham has a biography out, and it's being serialised in the Sun newspaper. The latest chapter released is about his time in the Tottenham youth setup before fleeing to ManYoo. Glory-Glory.net have written an article about it:

Terry Venables, who some of the foremost comedic talents inthe land have been suggesting should be given another go at the Spurs job, apparently blew the chance of signing David Beckham many moons ago - so young Mr Beckham informs us, or The Sun to be precise.

Venables was the man in charge when Beckham made the decision to leave Spurs youth setup and join Man United. According to the biography that Becks is ever so subtly promoting this week, it was Venables' lack of interest in the youngsters that made his mind up.

Upon entering Venables' office as a 12 year-old Beckham apparently found the Spurs boss scrabbling around on the floor for a peanut - and he went on to say : "I’d been happy training at Spurs and got on well with their youth development officer John Moncur.

"But the meeting left me feeling I had more questions than answers. John took us along to Terry’s office. He said: ‘So, John, what have you got to tell me about this young lad’?

"Although I’d been training at Spurs for a couple of years, the manager didn’t really have any idea who I was. I couldn’t help thinking about the times I’d been up to Manchester. Alex Ferguson knew all about me. That seemed important to me.

"Eventually Terry said ‘So, would you like to sign for Tottenham’? I said ‘I’d like to think about it’. In my head, though, I was shouting: It’s got to be United!"

To be fair to Venables, there's every chance that Moncur was kind enough to inform him that the young Beckham was something of a one trick pony and not really worth the fuss - which I can say safe in the knowledge that he at least failed to score against Villareal this evening.

Obviously it had nothing to do with Venables in the slightest, as the young Beckham had always loved United - but that's neither here nor there.

El Tel can currently be found spending his days fleeing disgruntled Leeds fans.

But for the price of one small peanut.....
