Just read this on cafe and I could not find an appropriate thread to post it in. Mods, move it if so.
Now it does seem pretty obvious but I had never thought of it before.
"When a player is sent off, the opposing team have to nominate a player to withdraw from the shoot-out, so you've got even number of players from each team taking part. Otherwise, Chelsea would have gained an advantage by having their number one penalty-taker taking his second penalty, at the same time as our number 11."
Feel free to add similar stuff!

Question: Before this rule was implemented, did anyone ever intentionally incur a red card in anticipation of penalties?

This is an interesting one...
If you score an own-goal direct from a throw-in, the goal is disallowed and a corner to the opposition is given.

That could turn pretty nasty :D Maybe it actually did happen, rules are always made for a reason.
