They are still in Austria and Lothar Matthäus' club Maccabi Netanya from Israel is todays test opponent:
Here's the starting lineup:
33 Vander
3 Pasanen, 4 Naldo, 27 Andersen, 2 Boenisch
7 Vranjes, 25 Niemeyer, 20 Jensen, 14 Hunt
9 Rosenberg, 23 Almeida
Sanogo is on the bench btw.
Edit: 2:0 after 25 minutes. Rosenberg and Almeida scored. Rosenbergs goal was a beauty.

it ended 3:0. good game by Werder and the 6th win in as many preseason matches. The third goal was a penalty by Jensen. Best player was in my opinion Jurica Vranjes. Hunt was good again as well. He's gained a lot of physical strenght. I'm pretty sure he'll have a breakthrough season if he stays healthy.
lineup in the 2nd half:
Vander
Pasanen, Prödl, Andersen, Tosic
Harnik, Vranjes, Baumann, Özil
Sanogo, Rosenberg

Let's not read too much into it but it's a stylish preseason so far. Today 7th game and 7th win: 4:0 against swiss outfit FC Sankt Gallen (who beat Leverkusen a few days ago). Goals scored by Frings, Sanogo, Baumann and Tosic.
starting XI:
Wiese
Fritz, Prödl, Naldo, Pasanen
Frings, Jensen, Özil, Hunt
Sanogo, Almeida
2nd half:
Wiese
Boenisch, Pasanen (61st Bargfrede), Andersen, Tosic
Niemeyer, Baumann, Vranjes
Harnik, Rosenberg, Husejinovic
the 2nd half lineup is somewhat unusual because we played with 2 wingers and a central forward and 3 dm's. so Martin Harnik played his natural position and he played it pretty well. Schaaf normally doesn't do any tactical changes of that kind so I think it's worth mentioning. Maybe they're practising another option for the upcoming season.

Having 3 defensive midfielders would go against the way we've been playing for a long time.
That is, if they are really DM's and weren't just playing a little conservatively this game.

First loss of the preseason against Trabzonspor who played like their lifes were at stake. Lots of hard tacklings by the turks but the loss was deserved. Luckily nobody got injured. The final score was 3:1

0:0 against Levski Sofia. Werder dominated the first 25 minutes and created lots of scoring opportunities but after a vicious foul on Sebastian Boenisch (who had to get subbed out) they basically tried to avoid injuries so it was a rather dull match playing wise but with lots of fouls especially by Levski.
I don't know what the bulgarians were trying to prove. Even their coach was hyper-motivated standing on the sideline 90 minutes arguing with the refs all the time. 7 yellow cards and one yellow/red for a Levski player but all in all the ref took action when it was too late.
10 minutes before the end Wiese stopped a hand-penalty which was a joke by itself. Boenisch suffered a stretched ligament and will be out a few days but might be fit for the cup-match @ Nordhorn on Saturday.
Werders lineup:
Wiese
Fritz, Naldo, Prödl, Boenisch
Frings, Baumann, Jensen, Hunt
Rosenberg, Almeida
substitutions:
Pasanen for Boenisch (23rd)
Sanogo for Rosenberg (46th)
Niemeyer for Baumann and Özil for Frings (66th)
Vranjes for Hunt (72nd)
Husejinovic for Almeida (76th)
The atmosphere on the ranks and surrounding the match was very friendly though. The fans gave Frings and Baumann standing ovations when they got subbed out.
What the media seems to ignore is that Werder didn't really schedule this match on their own. It's part of the DFL publicity program and so Werder was acting on behalf of the Bundesliga. On the other hand the german media likes to praise Bayern for their weird 1-day asia trips and claims that their the only ones representing german club football abroad.

If Boenisch is not seriously injured as it seems,
it has been a good test, because Levski didn´t see
the match as a friendly and played partwise too hard.
Good preparation for the cup match in Nordhorn,
who will also play for their lives.

just like last year we finished the preseason with a testmatch against danish side Esbjerg fB. Contrary to last year we won this time 3:0 thanks to goals from Sanogo (2x) and Harnik.
I couldn't watch but here are some Nordphoto photos:

a club with rich history (first German champion under the name
VfB Leipzig), but big problems in the last 10 years.

actually i like Lok, they've been catching up quickly in the last 6 or 7 years. They restarted from 0 and now they're back in the Oberliga NOFV-south, i hope they do well.
Lok played very motivated. It seemed like a nice cup atmosphere.
