The draw for the group stages will have to be made before the kick off of the tournament and prefreabley before starting line ups are posted. I'm happy to do this, as a neutral party.
What do people think, when should the draw be made?
Also, obviously, with 14 players taking part, there will be two groups of 4 and two groups of 3.
There was some discussion regarding how players would score points. I thought it would be best to give players a score based on what their starting 11 score in each round and just use that as the scoring system over the 3 rounds of games in the group stage. The other idea was that players would be drawn against each other and the player who scores highest over a single round of games would take 3 points.
I think, with two groups of 3, the first idea would work better. What's the consensus?

I think that the first system will work best. It just makes sense.

Should I just make the draw now?

I don't mind that. Wouldn't really change anything and I'd like to know.

I noticed that
i personally think that 2 groups of 7 would be fairer than giving group C and D teams an easier road.
Your choice, but i think its fairer.

If people really want that we could have a draw and merge groups 1 or 2 with groups 3 or 4?

After the Euro's are we having a comp where we are drawn against each other?

That sounds like the fairer thing to do.

After the real Euro group stage, the qualifiers will be drawn against each other and players will advance based on how well their players perform in the QFs, SFs etc.

If the next few people who give their opinion, agree, I'll do that.

I think we should, that was the plan with this one, but with the 2 people dropping out, it made that part more difficult. The quarterfinals, semis, and finals will be against each other.
I am exploring doing a champions league one of these for the 2008 campaign.

So why did we abandon the total score over the opponent? Why not keep it as it was and have each team play each other in the group? I think that's the more accurate in terms of how a soccer competition should work. What's the point of just adding up the total points at the end? Seems meaningless to me.
And I'm also against merging the groups as it would just deviate even farther from the original plan of having group play. Having group play was one of the reasons I was excited about the tournament and I drafted my players based on this and don't see the point in doing it in an overall rotisserie type scoring format. This isn't fantasy basketball.

I think it gives those in the group with 3 a disadvantage to be honest as we'll only play 2 games. (should we keep it in the original agreed upon format) We'd have far less room for error as the others. Most teams could lose a game and then win 2 and get out. In the group of 3 a loss could mean you're out.
I'm in a group of 3 and I don't mind that way of playing the games at all.

I agree with Toon on all his above points...it really should be group play team vs team.
My previous post/question was whether after the Euro's we are going to have another tournament with the same players where we create our own teams and tactics against other BS members in our group to get to the final.

I'm also for keeping the groups as they were drawn...And sticking with the original plan for scoring.

I'm all for keeping the groups as drawn, but can someone please clarify exactly how points are determined?

The judges and I are currently working out some of the scoring details.
These components will come into play (in no order of importance)
1) player's official stats from game (goals good, assists good, cards bad, goals against bad)
2) player's game rating as determined by the judges
3) how your team would have performed (this is the hardest to explain, but includes players playing in position, tactics, etc)
I am working it now, but ive had a busy week. I'm sorry that I cant tell you more, we will let you know just as soon as we get something we think is fair.

We need to get this settled ASAP.
Because the teams with 3 teams in the group need to know if they are playing this round or not.
In the case of my group I don't mind sitting out the first round.
