Just watched the Chivas USA -- Columbus highlights and boy are Chivas' kids good. They play with teens and nobodys yet still win on a weekly basis. Morrow blamed his poor record on "playing for the future" which a) Is a bad idea on a one year contract. b) Is a bad idea in a league that can't retain its top talent. c) Is a bad excuse because as previously mentioned, Chivas wins all the time.
Granted, Morrow did draft for the future, but MLS is a league where the future is now. There are only 28 players on the roster so every player is critical to the success of the team. Wagner has been a pro FOREVER and he still looks super green, Wallace should have progressed more by now, Shea looks nowhere ready to contribute, and Ibrahim is gone (not Morrow's or anyones' fault... I know). These talents maybe aren't panning out...
Why is Dello-Russo on the roster? Wileman? Daniels? Collectively they have one game and 90 minutes of MLS play. FC Dallas has the least productive Developmental roster in MLS. Who's fault is that? Likely Morrow's.
Drafting for the future doesn't make sense in MLS. Troy Perkins called it a U-23 and Over 30 league which in most cases holds true. We can sit on our little eggs until they hatch into decent players, play them for a season, and then wave them goodbye as they head to Norway. Maybe I'm too focused on winning now, but it's frustrating watching this team.

yes, he deserved to go. from reading different articles, it seemed as if he had some avery-like issues of, perhaps, being too stubborn. oscar left sighting differing views as well as alvial. currently, the team seems to be playing much looser w/ better movement.
plus, playing so defensive and settling for draws isn't attractive to watch...and it didn't work. we have enough talent to be better.

I didn't think he settled for draws. I thought he brought in attacking subs in all the time, generally 2 forwards every game.

And how many minutes did Wagner and Wallace get last year? And Wagner the year before that?
I think that is the point. Like Buzz's practice report this week and his question about Avila. The coach says he basically just can't find the "right" time to put the kid in. From all the reports I've read from Buzz and his performances in reserve games, Avila should have been seeing some decent minutes and probably even started a few games by now.
Toja has a bad game and gets rewarded by starting again the next week.
Richetti has a bad game (even admitted it himself I think) and is rewarded by starting the following week.
How many games did Oduro have to score as a sub before getting the start? Why? Because Alvarez would have a horrible game and get rewarded with a start the following game.
Wallace plays well when given a start yet finds himself back on the bench the next week.
The last 3 FCD coaches have all had the same bs line about wanting each player to compete for his spot week in and week out. Yet when a guy is on fire in practice and the guy in front of him has been horrible, there's no change. I just want to see a coach come in that will actually reward the players that deserve it.

jeffenb - and from a fan standpoint I understand what you are saying, and agree with parts of what you said. Anyone can have a bad game. And just because you are great in practice and the reserves doesn't necessarily mean you have reached a point where you are consistently able to perform at a high level in the more competitive game situations. Coaches often like to bring a player on as a sub in multiple games before giving them a start, but the subs they use in a particular game are dictated by the particular game situation (or should be). Some coaches like to plan on a run of several consecutive games to start a new player, in order to allow him to 'settle in' and be given an opportunity to perform over time.
Meanwhile, the analysis of the various developmental players contribution to their first team needs to be done before I am willing to accept nutella's statement that "FC Dallas has the least productive Developmental roster in MLS".

Sorry, but if a younger player is continuously one of the best players on the practice field it is one of two reasons. 1) the kid really is that good and should be given some playing time or 2) the older players he is schooling in practice aren't putting in the effort they should be in practice. #2 goes back to the "everybody is competing for their spots". I know everybody talks about players like Ruiz that didn't do much in practice but could turn it on in games. That to me says the player really isn't competing for a spot, not pushing himself, and not getting better everyday. That is not the type of player I would want on my team.

For clarification, I mean Daniels, Wileman, and Del-Ru have 90 minutes between them... for their whole careers.
This season they have a grand total of 0 minutes and 79 splinters from the bench.
