I'm not for either team, but I could have sworn Goian obstructed Ribery on the 46th minute play.......

51st minute, Sagnol commits the dumbest foul of the tourney so far, but it doesn't cost them.

Ideally, Ribéry and Malouda should run to the centre to pass to the strikers. In reality, most of the game remains on the sides with the hope that some long ball into the area gets to the right head.

About the rigidity of Domenech's system, spot on. Big concern.

With the disconnect between the sides and the forwards, goals should come from the intermitent runs by Ribéry down the centre, but he's not good at scoring in the run of the game, at least not with Les Bleus.

Glad you clairified with Les Bleus. At times, Ribery looked like he could score anytime he wanted in the Bundesliga this past season.

Problem is that his right foot is his strong one. So as long as he's on the right side, he won't get many chances to score himself.

At Bayern, he plays on the left flank and is hence more dangerous.

This game has been a snoozer. Hopefully Italy vs. Netherlands will be better, or Henry will make an appearance and score some goals.

Every team needs at least one brain. A player who has brains & leadership, and who plays in the midfield or up front. France is lacking that. The only brain is at the back (Thuram).

That's Riquelme in Argentina, Kakŕ in Brazil, Ballack in Germany, Pirlo & Gattuso in Italy, Donovan in the USA. That's what Zizou was in France. Not just a great player, but also an intelligent guy, for the game.

None of Ribéry, Henry, Makélélé or Vieira can fulfill such role.

And now Gomis for Anelka, further severing the connection to the midfield. Sigh.

But as Mehmet Scholl just pointed out on German TV, even if Ribery switches flanks, Malouda just stays put, being useless on the left and exposing the right flank.

Yeah, that's true I so far haven't figured out why Malouda even plays at all.

Regarding the inflexibility, what is the is really hurting for the french is that most of their defensive players stays put even if the french are in possesion and in the offense. You hardly see any fullback trying to overlap or some sort of dynamic offensive drive of from one of the DM/CMs. Overall the switching from defense to offense is not really working well

Yeah France's missing a playmaker. Toulolan is not an offensive presence like
Vieira. And problem arises when their wingers are not cutting inside and creating enough.
