I'm thinking this will be a tight match. France is not that much better and Romania could be the upset of this EURO. I'd go 1-1 or 2-2. Definately a first draw on the cup.

I admit that I know very little about this Romanian squad, other than Mutu of course, but based off their qualifying record and what I've read on them, they aren't a team to underestimate. I ALSO think that France are perennially underestimated in every regional and international tournament - despite our run 2 years ago in Germany - so I think all these calls for an upset may be overinflated.
I don't see this one ending in a tie. Goal by Ribery from a Benzema one-two in the, ohhhhhh, 60th minute should seal this one at 1-0. Viera's absence doesn't bother me too much. I'd rather have Henry in there than Anelka, but either of them could simply prove to be a distraction from the Ribery-Benzema show that works so well together.
Should be an entertaining match. I'll be at the pub shouting my lungs out!!! ALLEZ LES BLEUS. Nous sommes tous derriers vous.

France "perennially underestimated?"
Are you f'in kidding me?
Show me a tournament between France 98 and Germany 2006 where France wasn't listed among the favorites to win the thing?

Germany 2006.
All the critics wrote them off, saying the squad was too old.

Anyway, France should win this game in a relatively comfortable 1-0 victory.

Why do you think I said, "Show me a tournament between France 98 and Germany 2006 where France wasn't listed among the favorites to win the thing?"
That was meant to show that between those two tournaments, France was among the favorites in the World Cup and Euro Championships that took place during that span.
He said France were "perennially underestimated?"
I hardly call once in the past ten years "perennially underestimated."
Do you??

Obviously he's wrong in his analysis, but there has only been three tournaments in that span. The argument itself is pretty inconsequential.

Which is my entire point.

Doesn't change what was said and responded to.

I would like to see Romania winning this tie. This Euro is lacking surprises as far and I believe Chivu, Mutu and co. can surprise many people this year.

you're right. according to the stats France should win, but that doesn't mean it will be true. this euro hasn't had any surprises until now...maybe it's time for one. :)
