Hi.

The guys over at the Seattle Sounders FC boards have a thread detailing the exploits of the '08 Sounders - so why not have a thread for the Impact (http://www.montrealimpact.com/index.aspx?language=EN) team taking part in both USL-1 and the NCC this year?

Their next game is against Miami at Stade Saputo - and will have the 'Caps show up for an NCC match on the 17th (and going to visit Burnaby... I mean, Vancouver on the 25th) - with a few other USL-1 games along the way for June (http://www.montrealimpact.com/News/Calendar.aspx?language=EN).

For those of you tuning in from other threads, some funfacts about the Impact...

Have a brand new stadium
Lead the USL in home attendance
are considered one of the top 3 teams in terms of spending (although there is no official documentation out there about this, they are the only ones who took their team TWICE to europe for preseason matches)
Have in their lineup: Several former players from MLS, Italian Serie B, Canadian Mens National Team, Norwegian league, Argentina...

yet...

Have yet to win a home game
Have yet to score in a home game
Scoreless in 547 Minutes
are 2 spots out of playoff contention
Make me sad.

Don't forget the repressive administration, refer to the "Impact against free speech thread".

If the Impact are to have any hope of clawing their way to the NCC trophy, they will have to do the business against the 'Caps this month - with a game at Stade Saputo tomorrow, and a return leg over at Swangard on the 25th.

However, if the Whitecaps blow them away in the two games, they will surely go into that match on Canada Day at BMO Field with enough momentum to let them have a real go at TFC on their home FieldTurf.

Oh, and here's a preview for whoever wins the NCC:

Group C
MEX1: Atlante FC
HON1: CD Olímpia or CD Marathon
Series 2 Winner: Joe Public FC or New England Revolution
Series 7 Winner: CAN1 or NCA1

Schedule, Home Team Listed First (All Kickoff Time Eastern Standard)
17.09: CAN1 or NCA1 – Joe Public FC or New England Revolution (TBD)
18.09: Atlante – HON1 (22:00)
24.09: Joe Public FC or New England Revolution – HON1 (20:00)
24.09: CAN1 or NCA1 – Atlante (TBD)
30.09: Atlante – Joe Public FC or New England Revolution (20:00)
02.10: HON1 – CAN1 or NCA1 (22:00)
08.10: Joe Public FC or New England Revolution – CAN1 or NCA1 (20:00)
08.10: HON1 – Atlante (22:00)
21.10: CAN1 or NCA1 – HON1 (TBD)
21.10: Joe Public FC or New England Revolution – Atlante (20:00)
28.10: HON1 – Joe Public FC or New England Revolution (20:00)
28.10: Atlante – CAN1 or NCA1 (22:00)

it's gonna be fun!

I've got good feelings for tonight's qualifier match. Not only are we coming off a curse-breaking win against Charleston, but there's a high likelihood of Testo, Roberto Brown, and Leonardo di Lorenzo coming off the injured list.

Well, All that is left is for Vancouver to Beat Toronto and us to win the remining games.

HAHAHAHA! Good luck to Vancouver of beating TFC in our home turf where we haven't lost a game yet and only allowed 2 goals. We just need to win both of our home games to win Canadian championship! TORONTO TILL I DIE!

Good result against Vancouver. Outrageous that there is no video of the match from either CBC or Radio-Canada.

I wrote this, then found a report with some highlights at least:

Enjoy.

If you're in Canada, you can also get highlights from RDS.ca's video section.

The game against Carolina yesterday was great!
I'd say the rousing success lately is a result of the new coach and all those stars returning from injury. Roberto Brown, in his first game back scored once and had 2 assists. That guy's really glad to be back! When Gervais and Braz are both playing on the same defencive line next week, I really think we'll be unstoppable.

Hopefully Sunday's game serves as a model for the NCC rematch against Vancouver tomorrow at Swangard, it had everything we thought we'd see this year: good crowd enjoying a new stadium, good result based on team play and individual talent. If only we could restart the season.

Montréal Impact win the 2008 NCC, and raise the Voyageurs Cup at BMO Field.

Getting the Montréal-Toronto rivalries in nice and early, I see...

Way to go Impact! So, who do they get in the CCL? This will be great for Montreal soccer fans. I love when international teams play Houston, great atmosphere in the stands.

Ah just checked, I think Montreal has to play for a spot in group C against Real Esteli FC. Group C has Atlante, Olympia, and either New England or Joe Public.
