View Full Version : Celtic's Disgusting Transfer Dealings

Almost 3 seasons without serious strenghening of the squad, the deadline closed yesterday without a single addidition, this is not good enough.
I predict protests aplenty in the coming weeks and months, I just hope to god I'm not going to end up standing in the car park in the pissing rain again.
Whats worse is Rangers on the brink of bankruptcy are still more active in the transfer market than we are!

Yeah, that loan bid for McFadden was a piss-take of the highest order. I don't think that was what the authorities had in mind when they created the loan system.
Could you imagine Motherwell defending that deal if it had gone through? "Yes, we're sending McFadden out on loan to that wee team up the road so he can gain a little more experience. When he comes back he should be part of our first team plans.", ;)
I can only presume that Celtic are spending massive wages on their existing players. But all the financial statements seem to claim that player wages are only just over 50% of turnover (much better than most). So where the other nearly 50% of turnover is being spent, I do not know.

The McFadden farce was actually embarrassing to me SJ, I visibly cringed when I read about that and all the power in the world to 'well for telling the suits that run this club where to stick it, the arrogance was appaling.
The club currently stand 17 million in debt with 16 of it a long term loan from Desmot Dermond (2021 it doesnt have to be paid back till and we dont even have to pay anything on it till 2008!), thats without this seasons merchandising and champions league money added in, we have some players on decent wages but as you said we are one of the most responsible clubs in the country if not europe in regards to what we pay players, and with 25 million share issues, a uefa cup final run, the highest turnover in our history last season, we still make a loss, unbelieveable, and the board are desperately telling all shareholders to vote no to a fan representative on the board at the next AGM, the truth will out and heads will roll, has happened before and it will happen again.

That's it? You've got to be kidding me. I mean, the legendary Scottish parsimoniousness is one thing, but this is just damn foolishness.
Tell you what, if Liverpool doesn't start coming around -- events at Everton Saturday notwithstanding -- I'll bet you M O'N is gone to Merseyside by All Hallows Eve.

i just heard de la pena and dani are in talks with us......since they are free agents we can till sign them but they wont be able to play in champs league cos of the deadline passing......o'neill is famous for turning around players careers and if he can do it with de la pena he could be a great signing.....i think hes still only 27

It seems that rangers have signed players for the sake of signing players - I really don't forsee their signings making a huge difference for them.
That being said, no self-respecting Celtic fhan could be happy with our lack of activity leading up to the closing of the transfer window. I think the most frustrating thing about this lack of activity is that the re-opening doesn't occur until after Christmas, which won't help us in the crucial CL group stages.
This team is aging quickly, and with Henke set to leave at the end of the season, the argument could be made that this is our last chance (at least for a while) to make some noise on the Eurpoean front.
I hope McFadden shows well for the Toffs. Might be a spur to the board and MON to make some quicker (and better) decisions next time.
Even in light of these shortcomings - C'mon the Hoops!!!

De La Pena could be a very good signing, I emphasise could, but I'm going to wait to see till it comes to fruition, Dani, unless its the one that was at Barca I dont really know anything about.
But the question bugging me is they have been free agents all summer and we wait until the transfer window has closed before offering them deals??
We could have had them on our tour of sweden and the US and gave them a pre-season and actually assessed if they would be any good for us.
Call me cynical but I can see both deals falling through at the last minute, of course the players demands will be the cause, but the board and MON will then be going, oh look at our ambition how can you complain we dont have any or arent willing to spend when its the players who are being unreasonable.

de la Pena apparently doesn't want to play in Scotland.
He doesn't know what he is missing, ;)

Isn't Dani still training with us? Your post is several days old, so this is probably old news to you. By all accounts both trialists did fairly well. Dani set up one of Beattie's goals. Also cannoned one off the crossbar. Seems like a useful addition.

The club reported the deals as dead, the papers ran stories from De La Pena's agent basically a come and get me, and before you know it both are at CP on trial, De La Pena is off to Qatar now after being offered a better deal(!!!!!!), and Dani is still training as far as I know, my cynical head says he wont get a deal.

Has de la Pena actually accepted any offer from Qatar? The last I saw, he wanted to go for 48 hours to check out the situation. The way I interpreted it there was still the possibility of him staying with us. I'm past the point of being hopeful of much anymore.
