The American, Pate, from Garmin-Chipotle is currently the leader at the finish with a time of 36'54".

88 riders in.

I think most of the peleton decided that the effort wasn't worth the potential spoils at some point, Quickstep was the only team that tried to force the tempo, apparently to the dismay of many other teams. The other teams are likely to get back at Quickstep for that, whenever the oppurtunity poses itself in the next few weeks.

Personally I think the peloton felt that they would reel the lead group in until they realized the tail wind wind was going to work against them. Nice ride by the yank Danny Pate in the TT. I'm looking forward to seeing what Millar and Vandevelde can do.

Gotta agree. They seems to get it down to 3+ min, and then stopped pushing very hard as well as having the crashes. I don't think it was singular, but this being an early stage, we've seen other leaders pull the same tactic.

But they haven't gone on to suck it up as much as Valverde did today in the TT...

Awesome out and out racing! Cavendish really hammered it out at the end and it's not likely he would've been caught if the finish a bit longer, good show by the kid. In other thoughts, it looks like Valverde is going to have a suck ass tour and two American teams lead the Team GC. Garmin/Chipotle have close to two minutes over Columbia. I also wonder how this TDF would've been to Contador and Liepheimer had there team been allowed to race?

Liepheimer is completly overrated but I think Contador would have a chance.

Overrated might be a bit harsh but he is definitely an underachiever. He has had some decent results here and there but last year was a great chance to steal the GC. During the two final mountain stages he had every chance to launch an attack yet chose to ride the same steady cadence he always does.

Granted Levi isn't a great climber, he is comfortable in the mountains. Factor in the incredible TT he rode and theirs no reason to believe he couldn't have stole the TDF.

For sure, always nice to see a set-up Hincapie is involved with doing well. Absolutely adore that man. The ultimate professional.

Totally agree! Truly an underrated pro and the king of all domestiques. As an Argentino I have few of my own nations riders to hang my hat on and Big George has always been a positive beacon. Like I said, I agree with your sentiments and it was awesome to see him work so hard to get back into the mix at the very end. Have a great day guys I'm for a ride of my own. Ciao.

Something will go down on that last little 2 Cat climb. This is the type of stage that would have suited Virenque perfectly, little climb before a downhill finish. Saw him do that into Morzine, I think it was, twice.

AURILLAC, France -- Veteran Spanish rider Manuel Beltran has tested positive for EPO at the Tour de France, and police were at the hotel of his Liquigas team Friday.

"There are not just traces of EPO, there is EPO," Pierre Bordry, leader of the French anti-doping agency, told The Associated Press by telephone on Friday. "Whether there is a lot or a little, EPO is forbidden."

Good wins for Ricco yesterday and Sanchez today. It'll be interesting to see what the fallout is from the Beltran positive. An Armstrong lieutenant testing positive? What a shock!. I'm thinking Evans, Kirchen, Valverde and Menchov are the ones to watch for the overall.
