practice catching an egg with your foot

Two key points are: 1) kill the spin 2) cushion it.

I usually get rid of the spin by squeezing the ball towards my shin using the foot upon contact. Then you've gotta kinda hold/grip it. Remember to cushion the force of the ball as it's coming down by having some "give".

If you usually juggle without any spin, then great, just work on cushioning and gripping the ball.

Also, for me, foot stalls work best when the ball makes contact at the bend between my foot and shin. If the ball catches too far up the foot (ie. more towards the toes) it's harder to control.

Messy an egg would be, but effective it is. Yeah. So do it. Or, if you don't wanna mess up your shoes, rip the bladder out of any low quality soccer ball... they're very balloonish, and you would have to 'give' just as much as you would have to an egg in order to prevent it from flying off your foot (they're very bouncy and stuff.)

Was this the technique practiced by students in the movie "Kung-Fu Soccer"?

Or use a tennis ball, ping pong ball, etc.

How about practicing with a soccer ball?

Try hacky-sack, and then move onto soccer ball. The hacky-sack requires good placement and touch. Once you've got that, then add gripping the ball between your shin and the top of your foot.

I'm actually teaching my players right now to lay the ball on the ground with zero motion, rather than a foot stall. This is a more "soccer-like" skill.

It was Shaolin Soccer :) but close enough
It's fairly unrealistic in the movie because he juggles it with perfect control and tonnes of touches.

I agree, a hackey sack or tennis ball would be OK for starting out, but as JR mentioned, why not practice with a real soccer ball?

Make sure that you are not using "bad-shoes-for-juggling"
I've embarrassed myself a few times when I told people that I was good juggling and I couldn't because I had really crappy shoes that gave me zero control over the ball.

I try to "caress (spanish slang)" the ball as I juggle the ball, it also makes it a lot easier and comfortable to do it one foot at a time (left ,right ,left).

I have that whole stall stuff down....What I really wanna learn is that thing where you're juggling then, very quickly, move your foot around the ball in mid-air, then continue juggling. Anyone know how to do this? Please help!

Spread your legs ( o_o; ) Catch the balls when they drop. Squeeze them loosely. I'm sure you can take it from there ;)
