One month. I like Konchesky, but I wonder if he fits in with Hoddle's system and, assuming he impresses, how much he'll cost. He's no Convey, but a servicable player, young, full of energy, and an England Youth National Team lad, which is always good.

While loans aren't the way to build a squad IMHO, I at least approve of the player. While I'm not as excited about Dalmat, we definitely needed that type of player as well.

Good signing for you. Is Ziege fit, or is he still out with some injury ?. If he is out I'm a bit glad that you've signed Konchesky-that Tarrico is a bit of a nutter at times, assuming Tarrico plays on the left (I seem to remember him playing on either side for Ipswich).

Tanno is stronger on his right foot, but can (sort of) play the left and usually has for us. He's a little argentine angel :D

Kochensky is class. One month isn't long but it's better than nothing and helps hold us over a bit until the return of Ziege. He is a significantly better defensive left sided option than Convey (sorry), expecially as without a ballwinner we do not want our midfielders to be moving out wide to cover the wingback. With Chelski looming on the horizon, we'd get massacred. Kochensky is proven in the Premiership but just very expensive to get permanently.

I'm surprised we got him, but he wanted to move before Euro 2004 to play more games at left back, and I reckon Charlton want to tempt us into making a permanent bid for him, that would mean cash for them and no real chance for us to be able to then afford Scott Parker's buyout clause.

"With Gary Rowett and Richard Rufus injured, and Mark Fish soon to serve a suspension, I felt we needed to bring in someone of Chris' experience," Charlton boss Alan Curbishley told the club's website.

"It's no secret that Paul Konchesky's on the transfer list. Glenn wanted to take the opportunity to have a look at him so it is an amicable arrangement for everyone."

I like the sound of that. Ziege is in real trouble with his leg, to cover that side I think we'll definitely need to permanently bring in at least one top defensive person, but who can also get forward and put crosses in. Kochensky will fit the bill. Convey can then still join in the summer, as a more attacking player to fill out the squad.

One month with a chance to extend it? Hope so!

I like Dalmat, i think he's a very good creative/destructive midfielder. He'll do well i hope, it's a bit of a coup for Spurs really.

Official Site interview:

Paul Konchesky admits that his loan switch to Spurs took him by surprise.
The only place the 22-year-old thought he was heading on transfer deadline day was off with David Platt's England under-21 group for their European Championship qualifying games with Macedonia and Portugal.

As it transpired, the left-sided player made a dash for Spurs Lodge to complete the formalities of the move, meet the coaching staff and players and take time out for a quick word with the official site, before rushing off on national service.

"I was just getting ready to go with the under-21s at three o'clock and the manager (Alan Curbishley) phoned me to say I needed to get over to Chigwell to sign a loan contract," reported Paul, who won a full England cap against Australia in February.

"I was over the moon and couldn't wait."

So it is fair to say that he did not need too long to deliberate on the move...

"It didn't. He asked me if I wanted to wait and have a think about it, but I said I wanted to go. It is a great club and a great set-up here.

"I can't wait to get involved."

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned it, but Konchesky did Captain the U-21's in the last match, and from the reports he did fairly well.

The Under 21s are going nowhere under Platt, sadly. 4-0 defeat to Croatia, 1-1 with Macedonia. It's poor.

Peter Taylor had them unbeaten for ages and ages, then he left for club football (Leicester, then Brighton i think, now Hull) and Howard Wilkinson took over (don't get me started on why this man should never be allowed into football stadiums!) and he set them back about 5 steps, now Platt has carried it on.

It's a shame. Hopefully Konchesky can impress with Spurs, earn a longer deal and push for an England place!

Ooh, a Konchesky thread and some links to U21!

Well.. Postiga scored for Portugal vs England in the U21s this week. 2-1 win, but the goal was dodgy.

A Hugo Viana free kick deflected off Postiga's forearm, with 10 mins to go.

Means England are out of the U21 Championship. A blessing in disguise perhaps, Platt out! NOW!

Anyway, since then.. Konchesky has been saying how he'll be having words with Postiga over the goal, and when he gets to know him a bit more they will be joking about it. It was all said with humour, and no malice. So don't worry there won't be any Riise vs Carew-esque punchups!
