Does James Beattie still play for Sheffield United? Sorry I'm not too familiar with the Championship.
Yes he does mate!

Kevin Phillips has to be a championship legend by now. Why didn't he move up with West Brom at the end of last season? Seems like they really could use him..
I've wondered the same thing; Phillips has been prolific in the Championship for the last few years, but I've found that many Championship strikers struggle to maintain a good goalscoring form once making the move up to the Premiership.
Phillips is also about 35 years old, so perhaps West Brom wanted to go younger.

Phillips probably didn't want to fight for his place and serve as a lone striking donkey when he could score for fun in the Colaship. At 35 I'd be worrying about having fun and winning something at 2nd level rather than be miserable in the Prem.

Yes, and he's got 12 goals in 23 games so far this season.
So he's doing pretty well then.

Yes. He was actually just the subject of a rumor in the BBC's Gossip column the other day - Fulham & Hull were rumored to be interested.
I think he's Premiership quality, so it's only a matter of time before he moves back up, IMO.

Speak of the devil, it appears James Beattie is on his way to Stoke City in a £2.5m move.

I'll be honest, if I was a Blades fan, I'd be upset. Beattie is crucial for Sheffield United's promotion hopes, and the club paid £4m for him only 16 months ago. Watford sold Marlon King for over £4m last year...I would think Beattie would be worth at least that to Sheffield United.
Darius Henderson should be capable of ultimately stepping in for the club, as he's a proven goal scorer in the Championship, but Beattie is definitely a better player.

Darius was always a bit of a lump when he was at Reading. Great if you could plant the ball on his head 6 yards out, but he had the mobility of a sack of coal and controlled the ball like it was a freshly greased weasel.
It was no surprise at all that he was hopeless in the premiership.

Liam Rosenior should get a mention. Behind Doyle I would say him and Hunt have been our best players this season.
I am baffled at the mention for James Harper earlier in this thread, the bloke is almost non existant for us, not a fans favourite this season at all!

I know I'm biased here but Tommy Smith needs a shout. He does more with less than any player

Agreed. Tommy Smith has been one of the most productive attackers in the Championship this season. I'd certainly place him among the top-10 players in the entire division this season.
Was non existent against us last Friday.
Fair enough, but that was one game.

Pretty good list I think - although I've never seen what all the fuss about Seb Larsson is. Also, Ledley ahead of Bodde? :D

Chris Cohen is a possible shout for a top 10 player. He has been superb, great passer, boundless energy, very good positionally, can play midfield or full back. simply because we are near the bottom of the table it would be hard to say 'top ten player' but if we carry on the way we are then we might have a couple of contenders by the end of the season.
Nathan Tyson. Injured too often but with a run of games he is one of the most effective attackers in the division.

Here's the Independent's take on the top 20 players in England outside the Premier League:

They rate Lewis Mcgugan as Forest's best player (no.16), but he has been too inconsistent, and too injured :( to merit inclusion in the list. he has bags of potential though, and is a real creative driving force in our midfield. On talent alone he is definitely one of the best outside the prem, but he hasn't yet got the consistency.
A better choice for inclusion in the top 20 would be Nathan Tyson, who has been outstanding up front for us, and causes huge problems for any defence at this level. Few more effective attackers, none with more pace. I would also suggest Chris Cohen or Wes Morgan as being possible top 20 players, but fewer people have heard of them than Matt Jarvis and James Mcfadden (who hasn't done much this season). The inclusion of Miles Addison is a tad baffling.........
